If both of them are available to draft at the same time, who would you pick as the #1 pick? Why?
I would pick Yao Ming for sure.

Dominant big man or dominant guard? You choose the dominant big man.

    You choose Yao Ming.

    Lebron James.

Then I trade the rest of my team for Yao Ming.

i really hope lebron does well. the guy is hyped, but it's not his fault. the NBA is gonna come after him every night defensively b/c of it and he's gonna have a rude awakening when he sees how much tougher it is. don't underestimate what the NBA can do to a player psychologically. just ask J-Will.

I hope both Yao and James turn out great like Hakeem and Jordon. :)

I think LJ will be a fine player, but not anything like Yao...

You win championships with athletic, talented, gifted big men...

I hope LJ isn't overhyped and he does well, but YAO is the MAN...

Yao plays a tougher position to get a good player at. Yao will become a great one. Lebron probably will also, but Id rather Yao.
Plus the fact that he makes the ROckets a **** load of money because of his popularity.
James won't even approach Yao's fame.

    Lebron
Much like MJ he will be a marketing machine, which will benefit the team (more games on tv means more people want to play here and more interest from the fans)

I am also someone who firmly believes that a good big man is better than a good little man. But I think Lebron is that special.

That's questionable. Yao brings in a now crowd, but Lebron will be similar to Jordan in marketing (just based on initial endorsements)

Be interesting in 5-10 years who is more well known

You gotta go with LeBron. At 18 he's 6'8'' and 240? The kid could end up being Magic/Jordan clone. He is going to be something really, really special.

Do the Heat have two lottery picks???

Also, I heard TJ Ford is staying at UT another year. I love that kid, lets trade something for him.

Yao, ya'll realize Lebron hasn't even played against junior college level comp yet. The odds Lebron becomes as good as T-Mac or Kobe--let alone MJ level, just is not very good. Look where Miles is at now.

In sum, Lebron is a great talent, but much more risky. There has been 1 MJ, but most of the other of greatist players are centers, and Yao has had a very good rookie season amid a host of difficult circumstances--including jealous league players gunning for him. I'll take my chances Yao has the impact of next Wilt, Rusell, Kareem, Hakeem, Mo Malone, Walton (with health), or Shaq than Lebron has the impact of the next MJ or Oscar or Magic.
