    Summary

Yasiel Puig hit in head by Ian Kennedy.

Zack Greinke responds by hitting Miguel Montero in the back. Benches clear.

Kennedy then plunks Greinke. Kennedy is tossed, benches clear again, fracas ensues. Mark McGwire roid rages and exchanges words with Kirk Gibson and Matt Williams.

    Ejections:

Turner Ward is the D-Backs' assistant hitting coach.

The Dodgers wound up winning 5-3.

    Can't beat Vin Scully.

Looks like Kennedy felt he had to get one more in. I wouldn't be surprised if this resumes in a later game... Dodgers probably feel like they owe him one.

I wouldn't want to mess with Puig, by the way.

Wow. That was quite the build up to the brawl.

After reviewing the video, a couple more observations:

Dodgers reliever J.P. Howell thought it was the Royal Rumble and wanted to throw Turner Ward over the top rope and into the photographers.

Ronald Belisario (guy in Dodgers gear flailing wildly) throwing haymakers

Montero came to Ward's aid and then Clayton Kershaw decides to throw a right in his direction.

Kennedy's second retaliation was because the D-Backs were offended it took Greinke 3 pitches to hit Montero. they thought he should have taken his one shot missed and then moved on. I agree with the others in here. You don't throw at someones head for retaliation.

McGwire seemed to need just a bit of a spark to blow up... 'roid rage. :(

Eventually, baseball will have a rule like the NBA to fine anyone who leaves the dugout.

    Discipline issued

Ian Kennedy - 10 game suspension
Eric Hinske - 5 game suspension
    J.P. Howell - 2 game suspension
Skip Schumaker - 2 game suspension
Mark McGwire - 2 game suspension
Ronald Belisario - 1 game suspension
Don Mattingly - 1 game suspension
Kirk Gibson - 1 game suspension

The players, managers and coach named above have received undisclosed fines in addition to their suspensions.

Fines also were issued to Greinke, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, D-backs catcher Miguel Montero and D-backs outfielder Gerardo Parra.

All player discipline is subject to appeal. If a player elects to file an appeal, then the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete. Mattingly and Gibson are scheduled to serve their suspensions tonight, when the Dodgers are to begin a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park and the D-backs are to begin a series with the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park. McGwire is scheduled to serve his suspension tonight and Saturday.

The Dodgers have received a fine for allowing players who are currently on the disabled list to leave the dugout and enter the field during the incidents, violating MLB rules. In addition, neither Club will be allowed to have players who are on the DL sit in its dugout in their games throughout the weekend. Players who are on the DL may return to their benches on Monday for the D-backs and on Tuesday for the Dodgers.

Like how when NBA players get into fights people call them monkeys and thugs, but when mlb players fight people just call them tough and applaud them for defending their teammates.

Thug Monkeys? I'd pay to see that.

In all seriousness....who would call NBA fights thugs and monkeys? Show me a post where someone says that about an NBA fight.

If someone commits a cheap shot or sucker punch...or jumps someone...then I'd call them a thug. (regardless what they are doing......)
