If it means sacrificing Lin and/or Asik to get another star, i'm all for it. But no way i'm giving up on Jeremy Lin if just yet. I know he will succeed with us with the work ethic and his determination to improve.

The Rockets are enamored with Lin for more than his play.... A fan may see the Rockets as having a better pg option now, but Dwight (and his agent) may see the Lakers' pg situation as offering flexibility going forward. LA is going to do what it has to to get back on top and they are always more attractive than the Rockets because of their history and location.

How long do you think it'll take him to be solid? Considering he's not there now, it'll be at least one more season, so I don't think two seasons is a stretch. 1-2 seasons sounds right, but i'm leaning more towards two.

Again, Dwight doesn't have time to develop with these guys. He'll be 28 in december. This is his prime. For the Rockets to be more attractive to him, they need to look ready now, not in 3 years when he's almost a FA again.

Are we forgetting Kobe, Metta, and Pau are under contract for only one more year? That roster is lined up to vanish in a year, if necessary, except for Nash. That's one year earlier LA can flip things around, without needing to wait for trade partners.

    2014 UFA:

    Granger
    Randolph
    Melo
    Amar'e
    Gortat
    Gay
    LOWRY

You don't think Kobe and Pau will promise Dwight they'll resign on the cheap to get him even more help? Nash looks expensive now, but what about as a 9 mill expiring deal in one year? Don't underestimate the Lakers' ability to put something quickly together in 2014. If you're dwight, what looks more attractive after one year? The still young rockets with 1-2 years of playoff experience, or the experienced Kobe, Pau, Lowry, and Melo/Gay/Granger? Look at what the Spurs are doing, don't count Kobe and Pau out just yet.

Who said anything about heavily leaning on the PG? It's only a "wild fantasy" because you didnt understand my point. All those pgs were better than Lin, either due to talent or a mix of talent and experience. If you don't have that you need great players in leadership roles around the pg and we dont have that either. Harden isn't enough. Howard isn't that guy. Maybe Parsons becomes that guy, but it's not a sure thing.

8 million isn't fair for what is basically a second year player, period. The guys you listed all paid their dues over time, and in some of those cases, were still given bad contracts.

If this is your reason for him to come, then he will for sure not go with the Rockets. The reason for Dwight that Rockets is an attraction is not because they are ready to contend right now, but because they are young and powerful and if developed together can be multiple title contenders.

Oh, really? Someone should tell that to Chandler Parsons, since he's been telling Howard they're ready to contend next year. You'd think someone who knows Howard and has been hanging out with him would know better. Bad, Chandler, bad.

all of your arguments are pretty far fetched assumptions that have no basis. of course nobody has a crystal ball telling us when Jlin will hit his peak but based off his historical performance with 2 years of real play time, he's grown as a player and gotten a heck of a lot better at a very quick pace (compared to other players (taking 3pt % as an example...how long did it take Kidd and Lowry to be a legitimate 3pt threat?). this can be credited to his work ethic and bball IQ. if i were to take the rate of his growth historically, i'd bet that he doesn't need 2 full season to be an above average pg on a contending rockets team. of course, all players will always have something they could get better at but historically speaking, stating that it'll take at least 2 years for Jlin to grow isn't giving him enough credit and fairly taking into account how he's excelled during his short career.

ok, so just because you pay your "dues" by being in the league longer justifies the fact that Calderon and the other pgs are over paid?

you're making all these assumptions that Kobe and Pau will resign for a lot less just to build a team around howard. did you see kobe's interaction with howard this season? you really think kobe, of all players is willing to forego a good chunk of his salary and hand over the reigns to dwight to build around him? Kobe just came out with a video interview in Brazil stating that he sees himself playing another 4-5 years. knowing kobe and his will to win, i wouldn't doubt him and don't see him handing in his paycheck for dwight and friends.

you're throwing all these names out there as if you already know that Kobe and Pau are going to sign with Lowry, Melo, Gay, and Granger in 2014. you're giving the laker organization too much credit. sure it's a big market to play in LA but the lakers aren't being run by Dr. Jerry Buss, actually losing a lot of appeal and credibility under Jim. It takes more than just a big market to attract stars now.

Kidd and Lowry? What kind of comparison is that? Saying Lin improved his 3pt shot faster than two recognized names doesn't make him better than he is. Compare the games, not names.

Use the rate of his growth historically? You're telling me that as he gets closer and closet o his potential, his rate of growth will remain the same? I seriously doubt it. It's like losing weight. The farther you are from your ideal weight, the more pounds you can lose., As you get closer and closer, it's harder to keep dropping a large number of pounds.

Has Lin improve that much over his carrer or did they just underrate him and he's improved some? A lot of Lin's fans would argue he was underrated....

Doesn't justify, but it explains it.

Kobe has publicly expressed his desire to keep DH in town. Why would he do that, if he doesn't want him?

Forgo his salary? He can't forgo what he doesn't have. He'd still finish his current contract and get that salary, but then sign a smaller one. Even he knows he can't ask for 20-25 mill a year at his age. He would cripple the team financially, which defeats the purpose of sticking around for another title run.

Takes more than a bigger market? Says who? Melo? Deron? Bosh, who didn't want to join Lebron in Cleveland? Dwight, who really prefers Brooklyn?

Well... Dwight made something like 50% of his free throws this year. So if in practice he made 80% thats a thirty percent drop. If Lin made 78% of his three pointers in practice, that would translate into 48% during the season, which would be pretty damned good.

The point I'm making is that your comparison is dumb.

this is comical. judging his growth off historical improvement has more basis than just saying that it'll take him at least 2 years.

Doesn't justify it but explains it? You're starting to make less and less sense. So the longer you're in the league, the more you'll make every year? in that case, the highest paid player should be a vet like Ray Allen who only made 3 million? that explains a lot

i think you're forgetting that as big of a name as kobe is, he still works for the lakers and gets paid by the lakers. he's still a talking head for the lakers. can you really imagine kobe saying, "no i dont want dwight" if the back office wants to keep dwight when kobe really doesn't? he's smarter than to alienate the hand that feeds him.

they're basketball players. at the end of the day, all they should/do care about is getting a ring. it takes more than a big market to attract stars now. case and point is this season...says all the small market teams that ran the playoffs. says the pacers, grizzlies, nuggets, spurs, thunder, etc.

Anyone can make 3's in an empty gym.

I know I can shoot about 65% from 3 when I'm by myself, and I'm a pretty good shooter, but it's different when you're in the game.

It's actually easier the MORE shots you take. Shooting is all muscle memory. After taking that many 3's, it's almost like shooting free throws.

I don't care if he makes 100% in practice, Jeremy's got to make them when it counts. Props to him for wanting to get better though. A Rockets PG almost always needs to be able to shoot the 3 ball well.

ya'll post like he's going to stop his 3pt practice at this and just shooting uncontested shots.

i agree, most of it is muscle memory so theoretically the more you take, the easier but you have to factor in fatigue. i bet $100 you couldn't make %65 from around the nba arc with 1000 attempts.

This is where you lose some credibility.

I definitely don't feel the twenty-something game "Linsanity" phase was who he really is - especially when playing beside better players (i.e. Harden, possibly Dwight, etc).

But, there's good reason to believe the player he showed to be after the knee became healthy again could very well be "who he is".

Would THAT player - the one we saw during the second half of the season - be termed "solid"? If you say "no"... you're just not being honest, or don't understand the game very well.

He shot 46% and 40% on threes during the last 38 games of the season, while averaging a decent 6.2 assists and cutting down on his turnovers. He also AVERAGED 15 points per game. This, during a playoff push, when the pressure was high. That's BETTER THAN SOLID.

Do I discount the first half of the season? Definitely not. But, I apply common sense as well. If he showed what he COULD do during the NY stretch, and he played the way he did during the second half of the season with us, that leads me to believe there is merit to the "coming off an injury" and learning to blend in/learn a new system theory. High school, college, summer league, NY... he was THE MAN. He didn't have to defer to anyone. Learning how to throttle your game back and play off a better player and within a system isn't easy - especially when a player is at his best/comfortable with the ball in his hands. Playing off the ball A LOT and learning how to be more effective with less usage takes time.

Look, the guy has a lot to work on. No question. If Morey has an opportunity to acquire an elite PG, one that is without question an upgrade, no doubt he will do it. But, to put all your eggs in the Beverley basket and believing he is a better option - someone who has played about half an NBA season - is about as smart as believing Lin can average what he did during the NY stretch. Hell, as bad as he played early on, he was shooting 42% through the first 44 games (which includes a terrible 28% on threes) - Bev shot 41% for the year and doesn't get busted up for being a "bad shooter" or needing to "improve his shot". (I LOVE Bev and what he brings - but to assume he's better for us than Lin at this point is extremely premature)

His work ethic is proven and unquestionable. His ability to utilize his SPEED needs to improve, but he's shown the ability to get to the rim, especially in transition. His on ball defense must improve (not as good as Bev), but his help defense is tremendous NOW (much better than Bev).

The only game I was able to attend this year was in Dallas. Only Harden and Lin were on the court shooting when I got there (VERY early). Delfino appeared at the opposite end of the court briefly. But, that work ethic combined with improved health and overall confidence about finding his niche in the system and playing alongside Harden all were factors in his improved play during the second half of the season.

I also understand your point/belief that we'd be better if we had Millsap instead of Lin (and rolled with Bev and Millsap as our starters). I'm not going to discount that POSSIBILITY. I love Millsap too. Think he'd be a good fit with us. Have for awhile. But, to act as if we KNOW we'd be better with Bev and Millsap starting as opposet to Lin (with Bev off the bench) and an improved D-Mo or T. Jones is not a given. I understand your argument that the 8M could be spent "better", but that's not necessarily a given. It's possible, but not definitive.

No one knows if he'll be consistently ABOVE AVERAGE in the years to come. I think it's safe to say he won't be a superstar and he won't be an end of the bench guy. But, to ask when will he be "SOLID" is evidence of the fact you just don't care for the guy.

If in fact it was you who wanted Millsap...lol.

It may have been Larvs.... I apologize if it wasn't you.

    Point still remains, however.

It wasn't you... whoever it was had "his off season plans" in his sig... which included getting Millsap... and he went on and on about how Lin needed to be moved - sorry for confusing you two.
