Brian Shaw will be the new coach of the Denver Nuggets, according to an NBA source.

The Indiana Pacers assistant coach and former Phil Jackson pupil will finally get a crack at being a head coach, taking over for George Karl, who was fired this month.

Shaw has agreed to take over the Nuggets, a team that won 57 games last season and is loaded with young talent. Lionel Hollins, the former Memphis Grizzlies coach, was Denver's other top candidate for the position.

Good for him. God knows he was #1 on "usual suspects" list for interviewees.

Sixers, Celtics, Grizzlies are the three openings left.

Two of them reportedly are looking at younger, "up and comers" and Hollins obviously won't be returning to Memphis.

Good for him. He's paid his dues, unlike a certain Nets coach.

Brian Shaw tidbit from Jack McCallum's book about the 1990-91 Celtics, Unfinished Business:

Shaw got into a contract dispute after being drafted by the Celtics and left to play in Italy for a season after his rookie year. He came back to the Celtics after the team successfully sued him. Both the Boston front office, then led by Red Auerbach, and a lot of the Boston fans were annoyed at him and his agent, Jerome Stanley. (Shaw kind of holds a grudge against Boston to this day for how some of the fans treated him.)

Upon Shaw's return during the preseason of 1990-91, Kevin McHale was asked by a local writer whether he felt animosity toward Shaw and replied, "Why should I be mad at Brian? Look, it's not like he made it personal, if he came out and said, 'I'm not playing because I hate Kevin McHale,' then it would be different." "Actually, Kevin," a reporter told him, "that's exactly what he did say." "Where is that ********er?" said McHale, bolting out of his seat.

Jason Kidd spent 20 years leading offenses. I'm sure he's been close to a coach for a while now. It's similar to Peyton getting an offensive coordinator job right after he retires. Those types of guys are probably ready to go.

Sixers will likely hire the Spurs assistant or Chris Finch. Celtics probably settle for Del Negro or Hollins (Vinny will come for half the price). Grizzlies will promote Joerger according to JVG in an interview a few weeks ago.

It's a good thing the Nuggest upgraded their coaching situation. Oh, wait...

It's silly how many teams "think" they need a coaching change this year. Am I the only one who feels this way? I actually haven't been following too much the past two-three weeks.
