He's scrappy and "sticks his nose" in on the defensive end also will take a charge. Those were the advantages he has defensively.

Getting blown by on defense by smaller guys and getting beat up by bigger guys probably isn't what you want from a guy that will be seeing one or the other pretty much night in night out....

To each his own, I guess. His rebounding and jump shot are his strengths imo, his defense is his biggest weakness.

Based on RAPM, Millsap is consistently in top 30.

To be contender you need Batman & Robin with bunch Alfred's. There not too many of these pairing currently - Durant/Wesbrook, Lebron/Wade and Duncan/Parker. Sorry Millsap is not good enough be Harden's Robin.

But Morey can't make a dynamic duo (Howard), I love to have Milsap on 2 year deal with 2nd year being team option.

Can you actually point to any statistical data backing this up? Like this:

    http://stats-for-the-nba.appspot.com/ratings/2012.html

In 2011-12, Millsap had a RAPM DRating of 3.2, which is WELL above league average. In fact, his RAPM was just shy of the top 10 of all players, sandwiched between Durant and Griffin.

This year, his RAPM DRating is 2.1. Again, well above average and RAPM ranked #11 overall (again).

While RAPM is not the be-all-end-all of stats, his points allowed per possession is not horrible, per other advanced stats. This past season, it was 104. Compare that with Josh Smith's 101 or, the real super defenders, Tony Allen and Marc Gasol at 98. What's bad then? Carmelo Anthony at 108 or Kevin Martin at 107, people who actually ARE "horrible" at defense.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millspa01.html

Again, advanced stats are not the be-all-end-all, but looking at it from these multiple angles, he strikes me as an above average defender that has no inkling of being "horrible" on defense. Please let me know of what evidence points otherwise.

Millsap is definitely not good enough to take us to the next level, unless by next level someone means 2nd or 3rd round exists in the playoffs lol. But he is an improvement, and underrated. If we can get him for cheap or on a 2 yr deal, AND our Dwight/CP3 plans fall through, I certainly think that is a viable option.

Also, if we got Howard, we could SnT Asik for Millsap (probably require a 3rd team) or even a Josh Smith (straight up w/ ATL)...but I have a feeling Morey will hold onto Asik if we get Howard, at least until the trade deadline.

Oh and just to add a cherry on top to all of this, Millsap led ALL PFs in the LEAGUE this past season in Steals Per Game (at 1.3).

I mean, obviously if someone says "Will come up with the occasional steal and block, but isn’t a real stat-stuffer in either category." on draftexpress, it MUST be true.

I'm glad to see someone else here pays attention to RAPM (regulized adjusted plus minus). Obviously it's not a perfect stat, but it's my personal belief that Millsap is a great team player, he does so many things that won't show up on a box score but shows up on RAPM.

    Random comment:

Anyone else find it funny that 18 people who voted on the polls said Millsap would be below 25% from CORNER 3's (which he does better than his normal 3 point shots) even though last season he was 33% from 3 pt range and has a CAREER AVERAGE of 27%+ from behind the arc?

3rd round - you mean WCF. No definitely don't think Milsap bring Rockets to WCF. I'm guessing 54 wins which based last year standing is still only the 6th seed.

I could see us making WCFs w/ Millsap added to our current roster. I think that is the farthest he could possibly take us though.

Think of him as a supercharged role player like Parsons and potentially Lin. Role players shouldn't be expected to take us to the promised land, but star players like Dwight and Harden surrounded by good role players can.

Within 1 year? I guessing 9 game improvement from 45 - 54 which might not even give Rocket's home court advantage in round 1.

West is too close to call. A couple of games can change your seed from 8 to 6. The 5th and 2nd seed were also separated by merely 2 wins. It really is too hard to make accurate predictions. I mean, we can assume we will not be first or second seed, but anything after that is hard to say (if we got Millsap). Just by virtue of being a yr older and having had a LOT more time to play together, our Rockets team should be a lot better. Spurs are a yr older; LAL is going to be a mess one way or another. GS is dancing on pins (and by pins, I mean Curry's ankles). Who knows?

Oh by no way did I mean to say adding ONLY Millsap will definitely take us to the WCFs in one year though. That seems rather doubtful.

I was for Millsap being a stretch 4 for the rockets but after seeing Bosh in the finals. I'd rather have Josh Smith tear it up inside and defensively. I don't think stretch 4 will win a championship.

Does that mean I'm on the ignore list? Sort of telling of the kind of person you are to put me there not because I was trolling you or insulting you, but merely calling you out for exaggerated comments unsupported by stats or facts, and simply asking for any stats at all to back up your claims. Surprised that I'm the first if that's your threshold. Guess you really hate being wrong haha.
