That's insecure. is infinitely more masculine than Just be comfy with yourself. No need to wear burkha's to the beach, even if you don't have the bod. DaLadies will appreciate it.
The bigger issue is security, rather than having the perfect bod. I advocate proper swimwear for most body types because that's what makes the planet better in the long run, rather than creating these artificial barriers where everyone thinks they're a surfer because they boogie board once every 6 months. Get some cardio in, go easy on the food, and appreciate the body gave you. You don't need to do ab crunches every day to wear proper beachwear. No one likes insecure guys. I grew up near a beach as well. Laying out, swimming, floating, having a cigarette and conversing are higher on my list of priorities than surfing although I do it once in a while. Just want to see everyone secure and able to live in the moment when they relax.
Ronny, men, including myself, wear whatever other men and women deem appropriate. Although I admire your desire for individuality, most of the world is largely conformist. The swimwear you hope to change is a reflection of an arbitrary standard set by a conservative society. Before the 1800s, in the lands under the British Empire men either swam naked or wearing loincloths. In England, men and women started swimming together in public. Being the center of the empire, this change spread to the colonies. Swimwear was adopted by both sexes as result. Victorian style was very conservative. It covered most of the body for both sexes. The past century has reacted to this standard by making women and women more uncovered. No doubt there are surfers here who prefer board shorts. But, most men aren't surfers. Their arguments for function/form, silhouette, and/or masculinity are largely a myth they've convinced themselves. The truth: few men will wear whatever they want to wear for of being ridiculed. Men will wear skirts if that's what they've been raised to believe and continually reminded to wear by the time they die. In America, the standard is roomy swim trunks. Fashion isn't as capricious as you think. It will take at least a generation to move towards the Casino Royale style. If enough respectable men start wearing them, if enough women encourage men to wear them, then American men even in the Deep South will emulate Daniel Craig. I knew a very old gentleman who used to criticize board shorts even. Said men who wore them were 'fairies'. His attitude makes sense given that he and most men wore these at the beach: And Spoiler
Those same girls flicking their bean over pics of supermodels and super fit athletes or actors in speedos are the same ones who join in on calling guys gay for wearing them. The same ones grossed out when out of shape men wear them. The fact is no one looks like these supermodels etc. and American girls know that and don't want to see speedos at the beach.
Its the style and fashion, its like saying why basketball shorts are long now, and not short, like they did before? I mean most of them, have the body to wear them, but they dont. and not only in basketball, in tennis, they use longer shorts than they used a long time ago. its fashion, nothing else.
I don't consider the above speedos. I consider the above an amazing look for any man with a body remotely similar to those two fine fellows.
It sounds like this guy was only watching diving. Most of the competitive swimmers wore trunk length swimsuits. Funny personal anecdotes regarding these. At the condo complex in Singapore where my mom used to live (it had a lot of European expats living there) they banned board shorts from the pool. Men had to wear either the trunk shorts like in the pic above or tiny Speedos. Since the only swimsuit I owned was board shorts I went swimming in my Underarmor shorts which look like the trunk length swimsuits. A few months later I was doing an outdoor Judo Demo at the Minnesota State Fair and changed into my Gi outside while wearing those same shorts. I got a few wolf whistles but also got criticized by some for showing too much skin even though I wasn't showing any more skin than any other shirtless guy in shorts.
Probably because they are not comfortable. Like someone else said, I don't wear tighty whities for a reason, I wear boxers. Board shorts are far more comfortable.
In the daytime, briefs are more comfortable for guys with heavy cajones. Maybe that's the issue here? Small raisins?
It IS fashionable to wear the boy shorts, which are fashionable speedo's. Questions were asked in this thread to unmask why there's a prudish view towards skin and board shorts are deemed the norm for grown men in the US. Someone brought up the surfer myth. It was debunked. Dmc89 did a fairly good job addressing it when he pointed out the false notions of masculinity marketed to guys, and in women on a subconscious level, to make them more insecure and buy more products. Eat more food. Make them more fearful. Anyways. Spoiler
Im gonna have to support the speedo. If you look good in one (I wont be looking or judging, but I know what's disgusting) then sport one if you like. It will encourage overweight men to get fit. Women already have too much of an advantage over men when it comes to shutting a mans brain down and having them drool all over them. It will get them looking at us and not our wallets.
