Seems Fairer I guess. Why not. MJ 9 years in the league: 3 time nba champion 3 time nba finals mvp 3 time nba mvp 9 time nba all-star NBA ROY 1 time NBA DPOY 7 time scoring champion 2 time slam dunk champion 2 time gold medalist 1 time nba all-star game mvp LBJ currently (10 years): 2 time nba champ 2 time finals mvp 4 time nba mvp 1 time scoring champion 9 time NBA all-star 2 time all-star game mvp 2 time Gold Medalist 1 time ROY MJ averages at 9 years in: 32.3 ppg 5.9 apg 6.5rpg 2.7spg and 1bpg LBJ Career (10 years): 27.7ppg, 6.9 apg, 7.6 rpg 1.7spg and 0.8bpg
I like how these guys have adjusted their position to "Lebron is not better than MJ" when the true argument in the thread was that Lebron isn't clutch. That's an argument they can still win after Lebron proved them all wrong.
Exactly...Lebron is only 28, MJ's career is over...Kobe's career will be over after next season. We should probably wait to see how Lebron's career finishes before we compare the 3...it doesn't seem to be fair when Lebron's career is only about half way complete.
Top 10. MJ Russell Wilt Magic Bird Shaq Oscar Duncan Lebron||Olajwuon 11. Kobe Has Lebron overtaken Olajuwon in terms of overall achievements? If you had to pick one player to start your team would it be Hakeem or Lebron?
If you're going by achievements, sure, but what really matters is how good those players are. Would you really rather have Russell on your team than LeBron? Russell barely impacted the game offensively when it was so much easier to score several decades ago.
I'm not sure the impact Russell had in the game, but 8 in a row and 11 overall don't lie. Even with a smaller league, that's still an insane accomplishment that will probably never be done again. How do you know it was so much easier to score several decades ago? Sure the volume of shots and speed of the game was higher, but why was it easier to score? In all honesty I'd be happy to have ANY of those players if I started my team. I wouldn't even need to take MJ first.
I can't speak for anyone else on here but I've never felt Lebron was a choker. I do think there were times where he really blew it but he's also come up huge in other big situations. To me a choker is someone that rarely comes up big in big situations. I'm also not a Bulls nor Cavaliers fan so I have no beef with Lebron himself. From what I've seen he's a pretty good guy and obviously an amazing player. When it comes to Jordan vs. Lebron I simply call it like I see it.
I wish people would stop with the Bill Russell stuff! He's the most overrated player of all time. The fact that he won so many rings simply shows how bad basketball was when he was playing. My top 10: MJ Magic Lebron Bird Kobe Hakeem Shaq Kareem Dr J Duncan Some old timers will disagree with me, which is fine. But in my opinion if you never played in the merged league, I can't take you serious as a "greatest ever" candidate, sorry...
Just my opinion... I don't expect a lot to agree with me. Although some on this board do. Just know that this is an opinion based off of a huge amount of studying. I'm constantly looking into different parts of NBA/ABA history. I like to think I know more than the average fan about basketball and basketball history. So I'm not just saying he sucks without really knowing anything at all. I've watched tons of film (as much as I can find at least) Bill Russell was a great player in a bad league, but he's not top 10 ever in my opinion. I could see a good argument for Wilt though. I'm probably biased on Dr J, being objective I'd probably replace Dr J with Wilt. Russell, though one of the best leaders ever, but not one of the best basketball players.
It's probably not so much the Bill Russell issue as it's the Kobe over Hakeem, Shaq, Kareem, DrJ, and Duncan.
I hate Kobe as much as the next guy, but I can't argue with what he's done. I wouldn't have an issue with a list that has Hakeem, Shaq, and Kareem ahead of Kobe. But I don't think there is any question that Kobe should be ahead of Duncan and The Dr.
1 mvp, 2 finals mvps and 0 dpoys? well yeah, you can't argue with what he's done, but it's not really a lot in the grand scale of things, unless you include him in "the guy most overrated by playing with Shaq" club, his first 3 three rings feels like saying "wow Pippen won 6 rings, best sf eva". It's not even like he's in the same generation of any mega star players who just swallowed the awards like candy.
I'm not basing it simply on major accomplishments. That's just lazy and if that's your only argument you really don't know basketball! Now I don't know you, so I'm not saying you don't know basketball.. But that's the impression you give when all you look at is major accomplishments. That's part of it, but it's far from the whole story. All you have to do is watch the guy play and you see how great he is... And trust me, I can't stand the guy! He's dominated two different eras of the nba. Until this past season you could bet on him making a defender look stupid every time he played. It wasn't as much of a sure thing this year, but still a safe bet. I can't believe I'm defending Kobe, but I gotta be fair. He's one of the best we've ever seen.
