Luke's Locker is a great place. I had a lot of foot pain and couldn't run until I went there and that put me a pair of running shoes suited to my feet. But if you're playing basketball or doing stuff with lateral movement, you don't want running shoe. Running shoes are great for running, but lack support for other types of movements. They won't help your jumpers knee if you're playing basketball in them. You need cross trainers at least. Like other posters in this thread, I wear Asics. When I went back to Luke's a few months ago for new running shoes they had me try some other brands but I still like the Asics. The sales guy said that for a lot of people, once they get used to the Asics Gel cushioning, they don't want to go back to anything else. Asics does make cross trainers, so you might want to give those a look.
The Rockets have permeated my life: Does anyone else read Asics like Asiks now? As in Aaah-shik-s Carry on.
I have a closet full of basketball shoes I've collected when I was still playing so maybe I can help. I'm not playing anymore cause of my knee problem but I'm still staying active, doing other things. But when it comes down to basketball shoes, I've tried out just about all the later Nikes, Adidas, and Jordan brand models. From Hyperdunks, Kobes, KD's, Crazy Lights, etc. Now I've been experimenting with a few different shoes recently for day to day causal use. I founded that my Lebron 9 low tops are what's working for me atm. Maybe it's the 360 Max Air unit or the plush insole, but so far my knee feels fine walking in them for a few days. Couldn't say the same for my Kobe 8's which actually are known for having one of the better foam base midsoles. I have a pair of barefoot toe shoes that I use for workouts. When I did try switching over to them for causal use, I felt better walking around in them from the start over my Kobe 8's and my Nike Free's. But after standing around in them for awhile both my knees were feeling it. Now I'm only wearing them for short periods; possibly cause there's so little cushion in them. But for now my Lebron's are what I'm sticking too. They feel great walking around in them and they are great hoop shoes too. Just a little tip though... If you do decided to try out a pair of some of the low top bball shoes, and the heel lockdown isn't great for you... don't just pass out on them because of that. Tying up the laces in a runner's loop will solve that little problem.
I used to buy New Balance but switched to Asics. It will prob be a long time before I switch to another brand.
