Me too, my oldest goin on 13 yrs still active as a 6 week old pupppy, just full of energy.. The downside is I rarely take em out to walks because I'm lazy and it's the summer and hot. I'm sorry for your lost Newroxfan, all dogs go to heaven as they say.
I am sorry for your loss. We are in this together, I also put my dog named Lucky too (weird eh?) today.
I'm sorry for your loss, I'm glad your dog got to live a long, good life. I understand it may be too soon, but BARC and a couple other shelters have reached their limit and need pets adopted asap. If anyone out there wants a pet, and will care for it responsibly, please look into adoption as soon as possible.
Sorry for the loss. If you have time read this article my wife wrote after we had to put down our cat. If you have kids it will help with how they process it all Sorry again. http://rawsilkliving.com/anthropology-of-three/coping-loss-pet/
Sorry for your loss. Take comfort in rhe fact that he probably lived a better, happier, more fufilling life than 99% of dogs that ever lived - he lived a long life for a dog and it is clear thst you cared for him. Did he ever catch a squirrel? I have a cat who catches 2 or 3 a month. He always eats their heads and leaves their decapitated bodies in plain view, as if to warn other squirrels of what could happen if they violate his yard. Very creapy.
Sorry to hear this, man. Our beloved Ellie died in January after a little over 10 years. Dogs give so much joy.
Thanks everyone for all of the kind posts and thoughts... they are much appreciated by myself, my wife and two daughters. We have two other dogs (well, my two daughters have dogs), but they are the small, lap type dogs. But one day we may look for another dog to help rescue us like Lucky did.
yes... Lucky once caught one of the squirrels (as he did once a rabbit and a bird). He more or less just played with it, as I don't think he intended to do much once or if he did ever catch one. None of them survived his game though... he was pretty big and strong and probably didn't know his own strength. Years ago we lived further into the country and had a cat that adopted us. That cat loved to bring us all sorts of trophies, dead and often still alive. One time I saw him strutting up the deck with a snake tail whipping around out of his mouth. I was quick to shut the window that day...
Sad story. I love dogs but I don't know if I can get attached to a dog again bc of these types of things.
Very sad especially reading the part where it sounded like he knew what was happening and just accepted it.
Sorry to hear this man. Its hard to do. I had to put my Pug, Dixie to sleep last year. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. The strangest thing happened. When my girl was in the room with the vet doing the procedure, that song they play on that commercial about the abused animals, "In The Arms of an Angel" started playing over the intercom in the waiting room. I aint gonna lie I started balling. Hang in there bro, it takes awhile, but the grief will go away.
i'm on the threshold of putting down my 12 year old lab. i'm sure i'll be balling as soon as i walk into the vet office. sorry for your loss NewRoxFan. i'll be joining you soon.
I've had to put down 2 dogs & a cat in my day. Once you lose one, it get's a bit easier. Part of life, man. I always took consolation in how they put them down; they OD them with anesthesia. Very peaceful, like if we were to go to the dentist and be put under, only we didn't wake up. Sounds like those puppies you got will help, though.
Sorry man. It really sucks, so far we've had to do it to one dog. I have 2 right now, and they are among the most important things in my life. I don't even want to think about the day I'll have to do the same thing. I know it's just part of life, just wish they could live as long as say parrots.
Went through the same thing a little more than 2 years ago. It was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. Getting the mail, walking through the door, all the little things about my life in which he was right there. We were going to wait to get a new dog but I ended up deciding within a month that I wanted another. We ended up with a great dog who has become a very important part of our life. She's only 4 so I hope we get the time with her that Bexar had graced us with. I still miss him a lot, though.
I feel your pain i had to put my dog down last march and it was a miniature schnauzer. He was having seizures and the doctor said we had to put him down. Sorry for the lost man
