[ESPN] Asik, Rockets, overperform with shot selection

Hopefully Asik adds a 10 ft midrange jumper to his move next season.

 

I think everyone cheered when he hit those hail mary long/midrange jumpers he was forced into by the shot clock once or twice this past season. No one expected those to go in.

 

When they strike out in free agency and reluctantly sign Josh Smith, show him this article.

 

His shot form actually looks pretty good. I would love for him to come out of his offseason w/ a decent midrange shot hahaha, esp. if we have Dwight. Then we'd ACTUALLY have a (weaker) version of the Twin Towers.

 

Lay-ups, dunks > mid-range jumpers

I prefer to have everyone in the paint making baskets than chucking up 3's. Percentage is still favorable even on a bad night

 

How is it a paradox that you have a higher fg% when shooting much more high percentage shots? Asik has a worse fg% at the rim than KG but a higher overall fg%...well no **** sherlock, maybe because, as you mentioned, 4/5 of his shots are near the basket, while guys like KG take tons of midrange jumpers? Can't believe the guy is trying to sell this as science or something.

 

I think this is exactly what happened with Lin at the end of the season. Even though his %'s went up, not sure it was such a good thing.

 

in other words, he is very dependent on a pg that can get him the ball right under the basket for layups.

call me bias but harden and lin increased asik's value tremendously this year. without the two of them feeding him under the basket, his ppg would be in the single digits. on a team without a pg that can penetrate and dish to him under the basket, he wouldn't have any type of offensive game at all. just look at tyson chandler's offensive output this year compared to last year.
