Sure the Rockets are 1-3, and that's not something to be happy about, but imagine how upset the fans in Portland, Miami, and Seattle are?!?
The point is that this season has started off really weird and, even with our team's mistakes and mess-ups, we still can turn it around and get a great record and make the playoffs. We've only played 4 games for chrissake! I'm assuming that no one who would post on this board is a fair-weather fan, so can we please show just a smidgeon more faith in our team?
It is sad to see Hakeem in his current playing state though.....

Rockets and Clippers have the worst record in the west.

First, let me say I am not a fair weathered fan.

Second, let me say I do not necessarily think the season is over.

However, I do believe that right now the Rockets are not a good team. I am not saying the potential isnt there, but if they dont start playing better, there wont be much of an improvement, if any, over last year. Right now their defense is very very weak, they still have too many turnovers, they cant grab a rebound to save their lives, and besides for cuttino, they are all very streaky, inconsistent players at this point of the season. The MOST dissapointing hting so far has to be the lack of chemistry. This team did not change significantly over the summer, yet it seems like their chemistry is as bad as it was at the beginning of last year.

Regardless of how many games into the season we are, the Rockets still have a LOT of issues to wrok out before being considered a serious playoff contender.

Now, I hope that can be taken as constructive criticism. It is plainly obvious that I didnt FREAK OUT or anything.

I'm sorry you took offense to my post title and my reference to fair-weathered fans, but you're being just a bit over-sensitive here.
I agree with you on every single one of your points, and I am not thrilled about the way the Rocks are playing either.
But there is a certain element of immature posters on this BBS who just go "Bring on the lottery" or "The Rockets are finished". That's who this post is for.
I'm not targeting critics of the Rockets play because I agree that it's far from flawless. But, at the same time, I think it's premature to say that we can't work out our issues and become a contender for the playoffs this year (heck, for a while last year we were playoff contenders too!). If anything, I feel that we have a better chance than last year and that, pending the injury bug that has plagued our team almost all the way down to our championship years, we can really surprise people this year.
And whether you like to believe it or not, most of Houston is, sadly, the home of fair weather fans. It just upsets me to see them in here too.

I was thinkin the same thing. I mean, I expected Mo to get off to a slow start since he's new, but the rest of the team should be playing and passing well together. Is it Mo's unexperienced in a Rockets offense ass that's causing this? Or are we just underestimating the offseason? I think that maybe everyone just "forgot" what they were doin at the end of last season. The team has just started playin together after an absence of a few months, so they can't just pick up where they left off. They'll have to start off rough, but I don't think it'll take them as long as it did last season to gain the chemistry back.

Hey Dadakota, we will not be 1-7.

The Rockets will be 2-3 before you can say how-sweet-it-is!

We had a tough first three-weeks' worth of play lined up. Had they beat the Clips, then I'd say we're on track. 2-2 Woulda been OK going into the Lakers game. No one expects us to have a good first quarter-season.

It IS too early to tell. Last season it took them about 70 games to finally gel and start really winning. We've only just begun, so please, don't lose faith.

No true fan would lose faith after 4 games.

To Axsomebody... This quote makes no sense: "But there is a certain element of immature posters on this BBS who just go "Bring on the lottery" or "The Rockets are finished". That's who this post is for.
    "

It IS possible to be a fan and still have a realistic assessment of your team. In fact, I've been a Rockets fan probably longer than most of the people posting on this board. I was a fan back in '81 when they went to the Finals vs. the Celtics. I have watched the Rockets go thru their ups and downs. And trust me, I can tell when they are in their "downs". This seems to be one of those times. The glory days of the Rockets are over for now. It's OK --- we can still be fans in the meantime without expecting them to do more than they are capable of doing.

I would be more than happy to see the Rockets make the playoffs. It sucks not being able to root for a Houston team come postseason time. So, if I'm wrong, GREAT!!! But, based on what I'm seeing so far this year, it doesn't look like things will be much different than last year.

You call it immature just because I am making a prediction that you don't like. I guess it's not "cool" to predict something other than the playoffs. It would seem that maturity would allow you to hear the opinions of others even if they don't agree with yours.

Maybe the Rockets will be lottery team this year... If they are, will those who see it now be "immature"? I predicted the Rockets would be in the lottery last year BEFORE the season started, before Barkley even got hurt, and everyone flamed me off this board. Who was right? Maybe you should consider that before you throw around big words like "immature".

I thank you for one of the only friendly posts I've seen all day. At least someone out there can actually tolerate someone else's opinion.

It is not too hard to see that the Rockets lack in fundamentals. They are talented, no doubt about that. But talent will only take you so far. Basketball smarts are the difference once you get to the post season.

They are still a young team. Hopefully they will stay together and learn together and then we can win together. Right now they are learning together. Look to see if they keep repeating the same mistakes game after game. If they don't repeat them, they are learning.

"Look to see if they keep repeating the same mistakes game after game"

Does it count if they're repeating the same mistakes as they were last SEASON?!?

There's a reason we're unhappy with how the season's going. Lotsa reasons, actually.

Shandon got a raw deal, and props to him for even keeping a straight face... God bless his family.

Steve has no excuse, except for the fact that his team seems to be coming apart at the seams. He needs to realize it's his job to pull it together.

Cuttino has no excuse at all, and he's playing pretty well.

Cato - out (out before the season started, never mind when the injury happened)

Walt - out now, but streaky just as always before the injury.

Mo - been a pleasant surprise to me (not totally focused on offense, tho more so than I'd like)

Kenny - I really liked him last season, but he needs to get that chip off his shoulder; very talented, maybe break-out season if he gets a better attitude

Moochie - the surprise of the CBA, definitely NBA material, tons of heart, fast... he'd be a starter on another team

Lanky & Collier - undecided until they force a decision...

Los will gladly fill whichever position is left open when either Langhi or Collier falls

Bull - same as always, our last old school Rocket.

    Except for Dream. The X-factor...

Lighten up tree! [IMG] Did you even read my post? I was making a joke about two posters whos names are "treeman" and "axeman". Throw in a Washington quote, and you have good clean, political humor. You do remember the story of him (supposedly) chopping down a cherry tree? [IMG]
