I'm more a fan of Zod as a villain than I am a Superman fan. That's why I had high expectations. I'm still expecting Michael Shannon to be awesome though.

Pretty much confirms what a lot of early people who screened it have been saying. Pretty visually but the plot is too simplistic and predictable. Zack Synder can make great-looking films but it doesn't have a lot of backbone and the story can come off stale. I'll still probably watch this though.

FF6 was good. This movie was overhyped apparently. Stil

Like a few other here I got to see a screening of this movie and loved it.

As a person that has been a fan of the character since the 60's it is great to finally see a "comically" accurate depiction of Superman and all that his particular comic universe entails.

Without going into detail and spoiling anything this is a very much a movie straight out of a comic book. Go out and find a Superman comic book from about the mid eighties and on read it and what you will see in those pages is what you are going to get with this movie as per it's stylings.

    That said Dave2000 stated this:
    He is absolutely correct.

It is very much a Superman styled comic book plot just like the Avengers had their style of story translated to a movie as well. I mean from a perspective of someone who has read those comics as well it wasn't a shock that about half of that movie was a dick measuring contest sandwiched in between action scenes where they all come together and win in the end.

Another gripe that some may have is that all the characters aren't really fleshed out but you can tell especially with the news that the sequel to this is now being fast tracked that this is the ground floor from which many other stories will based on which will take care of those undeveloped aspects.

Again this is very much a movie straight out of the comics. If that is what you are looking for this movie is for you.

So I guess it's safe to say that Christopher Reeves superman movies are still ahead of its time?

Interesting take. I love stories that stay close to the comics, I mean, that's why these characters and stories were popular in the first place, because they were GOOD, not because they're superheroes. However, if there is one comic/hero I never liked it's Superman. Marvel came in with all of the flawed heroes and really crapped on characters like Superman IMO.

Even if Rotten Tomatoes gave me an inclination not to see it, I'd show up because Amy Adams is playing Lois Lane. Sssssh. Don't tell my wife. Anyway, it's revenge because she has a crush on Jamie Lannister.

He nailed it, wayyyy better than his whiney villain role in Premium Rush

One thing I also liked was that they didn't waste 30 mins on the origin/growing up part, but just did tidbits of flashbacks throughout the movie, was a shade over 2 hours which was perfect to me

fwiw, nothing to see after the credits.....

So is RT losing its credibility? I usually follow imdb ratings. If it scores anywhere above a 7.0 then it has to be good.

I'm not certain I follow this. Wasn't it the esteemed Kevin Smith who spoke for a certain vocal segment of filmdom / geekdom (I believe regarding the much maligned Superman Returns) - for the powers that be to make a Superman movie where he simply "punches" something? I suspect that Man of Steel is a direct response to this past critique - in effect giving the people what they've been clamoring for.

IMDB has a ton of vote stuffing. Plus, the anonymity can skew the rating breakdown. Rotten Tomatoes is a fair barometer although a great deal of their critics are more film reviewers from winky dink TV stations or blogs.

Most likely though, Man of Steel really isn't as good as some people wanted it to be.

There was an article done in the Hollywood Reporter on the largest disparity between critics score and audience score. Kinda funny.

Those ratings are worse than the hulk. That was a terrible movie.
