This television channel which is broadcast all over the Middle East constantly throws out lies about the United States. The average person in the middle east has no idea what america is really like, all they get to hear is the propaganda spewed from this state controlled television station. I hope once we liberate Iraq, we put up a HUGE television station that beams alternative Pro US programming all over the middle east. We have to beat all this misplaced hatred if we truly want world peace. DD
They are paid fairly, however the money only goes to the leaders of the countries, and not the regular Joe on the street. That is the biggest problem over there....in Saudi Arabia, the rulers keep the majority of the cash and live in luxury, while the guy on the street lives under strict rules and in squaler. The Rulers then blame the good ole USA for the regular guys plight. Keep em broke and keep em stupid.....good strat...huh? DD
You are right, they are paid fairly, but the U.S. doesn't make enough effort to insure that the money gets reivnested in those countries, we happily accept those large deposits in our banks, and use the money to invest over here.
True, That is the constraints of a free society. This is a societal war, our way versus their way. We need to recognize that the war is for people's beliefs as well, we need to be VERY supportive of a new FREE Iraq, and hopefully this will spread all over the Middle East DD
Squalor? I've lived in Dhahran, and believe me, the Saudi's do NOT live in squalor. The native Saudi's are so high-class that they refuse to do blue-collar work. All the construction/labor work is done by imported laborers from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Furthermore, jobs such as shopkeepers and clerks go to imported individuals from the Philippines. Saudi's work very little, get ridiculous benefits from the government, and love driving Suburbans.
Al Jazeera is based out of Qatar, one of the US's greatest allies in the region and ruled by a monarch that is creating a constitution and wishes to begin free elections of officials and allows freedom of speech on a grand scale. They actually believe that it is CNN and the other western networks that broadcast a Pro US/Israeli and anti-Arab/Muslim theme. Thats the beauty of freedom of speech, we as individuals get to hear both sides then make a decision!!
Then why do the Egyptian people hate us so much? We give them an insane amount of money. 2nd only to Israel I believe.
I guess the question is do we have the Egyptian goverment under our control because of the money? I'm really not that familiar with our Egyptian relations. But if you give country a lot of money it's hard for them when you take it away.
Egypt is a scenario that we have become accustomed to. It is first off, a dictatorship in which any statements against the ruling government whether at home or in a church or mosque will result in detainment and usually punished by death by the secret police. This government attains much of its power from the large amount of funding from the US. The people are not free and want freedom and like Saudi Arabia, the Shah of Iran and Chile, the people blame the US for propping up the regime that denies the rights that live for here in the USA. The fact is that we give money to this government to opress its people for the sole reason that it bends to Israeli and US will whenever needed. A bribe to keep them in check is how I look at it. I think we should cut off funding to Egypt, Saudi, Jordan, Israel and Qatar. We should take our troops out of the middle east and if we want oil buy it from them. They have a product to sell and we wish to purchase it. There is an economic embargo against Iran that was breached when Marc Rich bought 80 million barrells of oil for 25% of the market price from them and sold them for a discount to market value and made himself a billionaire. After convicted he then sat in Israel waiting for his pardon. If Iran would sell to an Israeli at a discount to market value obviously they would sell to us. We still have an embargo on Iran, Iraq and Libya that when opened would create an abundance of international oil. I just don't know what the hell we are doing over there. We are creating enemies, building animosities among former allies and losing American lives.
and when we do...and we take out tyrants...we take criticism for doing that. our motives are questioned. so begins a new day, hopefully...down with the tyrants.
