They'll throw in picks plus cash, or maybe even cut him.
There is no way Les lets Dwight slip through his grasp again.

They cannot waive him. His contract is guaranteed meaning it still counts against the cap and hinders the Rockets from offering a full max contract.

That's actually not bad. I don't think a front court of Asik and Howard will work. I'm tired of moving players into new positions and then complaining about how they aren't performing. We've done it time and time again and very few instances has even remotely come close to working. And Asik is too good and too expensive to be a backup. Also if Asik was the backup then we'd still be back to having a hole at PF. Trading Asik, Robinson and White for a PF would allow Howard to play C and plug the PF hole.

I wonder if Rockets do S n T for Paul i know we need to involve 3rd team in it. and if we do what would take for rockets to get him and who would be the 3rd team.

This has been gone over quite a bit, but essentially-

Robinson, Lin and Asik would need to be traded for no salary back-

-ALL non-guaranteed contracts would need to be waived.

Its not impossible, but extremely unlikely.

With so many good role players falling to the second round, i am starting to think Morey should really try T. Rob for Clevelands #19 and #30 picks. I see three high potentials in this area.;)

Aside from money,(won't the 30 get guaranteed money?) there are not enough roster spots. Morey really needs to clean shop and I feel G. Smith will be one of the first to go.

He should have considering he was the second pick in the draft.

    Come on Badlee.

That would defeat the whole purpose of trying to trade Robinson. The cap holds of both first round picks would be almost the same amount as Robinson's salary counts against the cap.

two first round picks in THIS YEARS draft = not enough cap space to sign Dwight Howard to the max.

    Future picks badlee, future picks.

We don't need to clear more cap space if we offer Dwight 3 years, yall thinking too much.

    Once again. No it wouldn't.

In fact, I suspect Cleveland is one of the targets for TRob. A deal involving something like TRob/RWhite for those 2 picks and Miles and Chris Quinn could easily be accomplished and still give us the cap space we need.

You have to remember something here about this time of year. The transition between seasons affords teams much flexibility in the structuring of trades.

For example what I described above...how do you get it done? Well, you trade for Miles and Chris Quinn right now. We can take on both salaries without sending anybody out. We have cap space for Miles and Quinn is a minimum salary guy. Put them on the roster. Send Cleveland $2.1 million cash.

Then at some point after the July moratorium when the signing of Dwight becomes imminent you trade TRob/White to Cleveland for nothing but cap space. In the meantime, Cleveland has picked whoever we wanted them to pick during the draft and they are holding those 2 first round picks for us unsigned. We then sign Dwight outright using the cap space we received by trading out TRob/RWhite. After we sign Dwight, we send Cleveland $3.2 million to buy the 2 first round picks that they agreed to trade us on draft night. Unsigned draft picks have no value in trade. Therefore you can trade unsigned draft picks for cash or really nothing if you want to. Their roster charge is simply added on to the team that they are traded to.

I fail to understand this logic. I'm guessing you don't understand how the salary cap works.....

The amount of cap space that we need is based on the amount of the first year of Howard's new deal. That amount is set by the NBA maximum salary restrictions. The number of years on the contract has no effect on that number.

Same cap space ($20.5M) is required for a 3 year contract as would be required for a 4 year contract.

Quick question: after we buy the first round draft picks that are unsigned, how will we have the cap room to sign them? Or can we go over the cap to sign them if we're already there and then subsequently trade for the picks?

It's in the CBA. They have zero trade value if they are unsigned. You buy them and their cap hold is added to the cap until they are signed and then their contract is added to the cap.

So, if we got CQ and CJ Miles, then waived them to take on no $ (when is the date we have to have them waived by again? Why do we even need them again?), after sending out TRob and White, we would have this:

    Lin - $8.3
    Asik - $8.3
Harden - $13.8 (based on higher cap)
    TJones - $1.5
    DMo - $1.4
    Parsons - $0.9
    Bev - $0.8
    Smith - $0.9
    Howard - $20.5
    Honeycutt - $0.1
    cap hold - $0.49
    cap hold - $0.49

With about a million left over to sign the picks. Is taking on CJ and Quinn just to send the cash as part of the deal?

oops, sorry, need an extra cap hold of $0.49 added to that as well, so really only half a million left over to sign the picks. Them being first round though, do we have enough to sign both? Probably only enough for one, right? Aren't there min. guaranteed amounts?
