Maybe I am living in my own sheltered Rockets world, but it seems like our players get injured more often than those on other teams....and the injuries seem more severe. Does anyone else think we need a new trainer to get these guys in better shape so they won't sustain these injuries?

I don't know how you think a new trainer will stop people coming down on someone else's foot and turning their ankle or coming down wrong and hyper extending a knee or grabbing for a rebound or loose ball and getting a finger broken or clashing head to chin and needing stitches.

What other injuries are you talking about? You mean all those injuries to guys like Drexler, Barkley, Elie, Olajuwon and others who were all 34+ at the time? Those?

Chances are they had more to do with age than training. Remember that for years we have been one of the oldest teams in the league.

This year, rolling ankles, cut chin's and banged knees have just been bad luck. It has very little to do with conditioning.

By the way, the trainer is not the conditioning guy anyway. Robert Barr is the strength and conditioning coach. He is responsible for weight training, etc. The trainer patches them up and tries to maintain their health.

Sorry the title was supposed to be 'Time for a New Trainer?' with the question mark, not the exclamation. I guess I was referring to the strength and conditioning coach also...thanks Jeff. OT, I do agree that you cannot avoid those types of injuries as a result of hard play, but what I am referring to is all the strains and pulls. It seems that for the past few years we have never been able to field the same team on the court for a consistent amount of time. With a constant change of lineups comes a constant change of time for adjustments. You do have to admit that our injury situation has been one which leaves you pondering 'Ok, who will be next?' Strength and conditioning do play a major part in avoiding injuries.
