Stumbled upon this article with the Grant Hill news. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_yao_ming_retires_nba_070811 "There was never a storybook ending for Yao Ming, who ultimately crumbled from the weight of his incredible gift, his unprecedented burden. Someday, he belongs in the Basketball Hall of Fame because his won’t simply be a story of what could’ve been. Just take a look around the world now, to the Far East and back, and you’ll understand the unparalleled part Yao Ming played in what is and what will always be. The game’s great giant, his body battered, finally sits down now. His work’s done, and it will last forever."
Nice to see Yao and his contributions are not forgotten. As a big fan, it is difficult to forget about what could have been if he could have remained healthy
If they can decide to put Viatle in the HoF, why not? Yao contributed more to the sport than that hack.
had he stayed consistently healthy yao could have been one of the greatest centers. some games he was just unstoppable, not many centers had his court presence. it was a rollercoaster with yao, but nobody can ever say that he didnt give it absolutely 100% every single game. he had a lot of drive and the heart of a champion.

I am proud, as a Rocket fan, that a man as large as Yao represented my team; he loomed larger than he was tall as a human of immense character, one who carried the burden of the world's most populous country. Yao never relented and was spent early likely as an effect of never saying 'No' to basketball responsibilities for the CNT, the Rockets or any person along the way. Yao Ming is world class and a true HoF'er.
Agreed. Pure class act. Everyone only had good things to say about him when he retired. Shame he never got to have a complete professional career, but what a great person.
