Not a big deal personally, considering the context. "No homo" has never been offensive to me. I think it's just a silly and juvenile phrase. But I think the NBA may come down hard on Hibbert, to make an example out of him. Especially in times like these, where homosexuality is a sensitive hot button issue. I wouldn't completely rule a suspension out, but I think a large fine is most likely, along with a public apology (which he just issued). A fine is appropriate, a suspension is too harsh. Hibbert is a public figure, so he should know better. Some things you just don't say in public, regardless of context or intention. I think he's a good guy and will learn from this. The average Joe at many companies would likely get axed on the spot. It's worth noting that LeBron also said "no homo" during an interview about three years ago, and got fined for it. And Kobe aimed a nasty gay slur directly at a ref one or two years ago and got a big fine.
No wonder players don't really come out when they're still active. They're afraid sturn might fine them for being gay.
I am apologizing for insensitive remarks made during the postgame press conference after our victory over Miami Saturday night. They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization. I sincerely have deep regret over my choice of words last night.
When Artest said it he wasn't fined right? Anyway Hibbert is a stand up guy who's probably done a **** ton of charity work and who's ethics shouldn't be questioned even with these recent comments. The real assholes are the people making such a big deal about it, who obviously don't possess the intelligence to realize what his intentions were. Censoring a bunch of words isn't going to make the world a better place. Maybe stop teaching the bible to young children when they're unable to form their own opinions and will accept everything as fact, developing a false sense of what's right, becoming judgemental pricks.
I wished they'd let curse words and full nudity be uncensored already on tv. We'd be less PC, I think.
Hibbert trying very hard for attention through the media right now. He looked uncomfortable both times
This basically means the same thing as "pause", right? Not sure if that's still something people say, but the intent is the same I guess.
These days, you can't say stuff like that in public, let alone a press conference. Imagine if Hibbert said he likes to (insert whatever it is that white people like) and said "no whitey"
What if he had said "yes homo"? Would that mean he just came out of the closet? If so, the people upset by this would have the total opposite reaction.

Sports media like to act morally superior, they treat gays as victims and believe they can't take a joke.
