I have never seen a coach so much out of his depth like this clueless fish out of a pond. I have not been this mad in a long long time......many thanks to Larry Smith. Under his leadership, our glorified "all world" guards found a way to go back to their old ways.....ahhhh! we may never learn. What was so bad about the way we won the last five games before this one? Why couldn't just stick to that which was working like the engine of Benz 500 SEL automobile? Why? Why? Steve Francis in spite of a decent stat line played horrible as a "leader". What is up with the one on ones? Can Steve ever be a good leader or even co-leader on this team? Flat out - if we had a Mabury we definitely would not have lost this game. Why was our substition similar mind boggling? This loss solely lies on the shoulders of the clueless Mr Mean, dumb Francis and the gray hole, Mobley.
This post is useless. If we had been going to Yao the whole game and still lost like this, you wouldn't be b****ing. You're just upset that the offense wasn't run through Ming. Although if you bothered to take off your Francis hating glasses, you'd see that Yao Ming was getting double and triple teammed EVERY time he had the ball. Steve didn't have just a 'decent stat line', he had at least 9 assists. There's not much more one man can do. Our real problem was defense, not selfish play.
Here's a hint. if you shoot better than 5 -20 from the 3 point line, you get fewer double teams. Playing Glenn Rice only 13 minutes does not help. Larry Smith or Dell Harris. Night and day.
well said Riet. Larry Smith should've stuck with Rudy's sub patterns instead of making up his own, just because he 'could'. Didn't he learn anything being on the bench all those years? Rudy has worked hard to make these guys comfortable in there playing time over this entire season...Mr. Mean-ingless goes and screws that up his first game coaching. Way to go there chief.
He was one of the most tenacious rebounders in the history of the game, particularly on the offensive glass. The nickname is partially tongue-in-cheek because he is such a nice guy off the court.
You must make a better effort to establish the post than the Rockets did tonight. Yao Ming has been clutch for the Rockets in the 4th quarter. Your star should not be riding the pine when you are trying to come from behind. Yao Ming only played about a minute or two in the fourth quarter and certainly not long enough to get into any kind of rythem. Larry Smith is not ready for prime time. Defense or not.
Im completely agree that this was horrible coaching performance. First off, what is up with having Yao on the bench for the first 8 minutes of the 4th quarter. Really smart. Then, bring the guy in when the lead has reached 11. Rice also did not play nearly enough. The whole offense went down in flames.
Agreed. Also, if a coach cant figure out how to score when one of his players is triple teamed, then we have serious problems. Either from a coaching standpoint or we need new players. We dont have exactly a great cast of shooters and 5-20 nights will occur. This is definately one of the most frustrating losses for me this year!
One other thing. Having Rudy miss out on this game made me realize that he is a solid coach. He needs to get his butt back on this road trip.
I was wondering why because he seems like a nice guy. I didnt even know he played. Too many people with common names like that I guess, or maybe its cause he probably played when i was like 3.
Well it wasn't horrible. That was like his first time ever... But yeah. He screwed up the substitution pattern and rotations. He didn't put MoRice together. He didn't make any defensive adjustments. He didn't complain when Yao was being hugged and held onto for 5 seconds underneath the basket. He let Moochie play forever.....but Moochie did ALL RIGHT. He kinda did good for about 1 minute when he played Moochie, Francis, and Mobley together....that worked.....for about 1 minute. He screwed up.....he continued to let Mobley guard Rashard Lewis even after he brought Posey and Rice in. The whole night.......the Sonics big men were left wide open.......EVEN RAY ALLEN WAS LEFT OPEN. What's Mobley doing? Oh yeah....guarding RASHARD LEWIS. Jesus. Francis being a shooting guard? He can't stop Brent Barry!!!!!! We were close in the game because of our talent....but then we just lost it. Their team is so much smarter. They may not be as talented...but they play smart. OH YEAH...this is about Mr. Mean. That's why he's not a head coach.
I get it now!!! This is all a conspiracy!! Rudy told Mr. Mean to f@ck up and lose one on purpose so that it makes Rudy's coaching look like a god send. Afterall, can you believe that 99% of this board is anxiously waiting for Rudy to return? Mr. Mean cant be that dumb. There has to be a greater reason for his coaching...
if the offense was ran through Yao and not through our Francis isos aka our And 1 Mixtape...the outcome might have been different and there wouldn't be a need for b****ing.
I saw him play at the tail end of his career...My god, the WORST freethrow shooter....probably ever in Rockets history. But he sure could rebound. I remember one game, feeling so embarassed for him and his inability to make even 1 freethrow at the end of some important game. The other team just kept fouling him and it was a like that song just crept up into my head "....He shoots the bricks...owwwww...he's mighty mighty, just lettin them all brick out..." The other team was just laughing at him like he was some fool whose never even shot a FT before. Very sad for a Pro.
Sir.......it was impossible to get Yao the ball. The guy was grabbing him. And then the tall lineup of the Sonics then surrounded him immediately. Refs didn't give him any calls. Yao had no chance. He had 4 turnovers. We couldn't run through him. What they did on Yao...they did on Mo Taylor too. So we were pretty much screwed..... Mr. Mean didn't make any adjustments or anything. Francis was forced to score...since nobody else on the team was able to.
Can't totally blame the guards. It's a known fact that our guards simply couldn't control themselves. Either our assistant coach today didn't even make an effort to control them or our guards didn't listen to him. We need Rudy back ASAP.
Francis played fine. He made some really tough shots and carried the offense when it struggled. The problem was they were doubling on Yao and the wide open player couldnt make the shot. You cannot play 4 on 5 out there. Glenn Rice went 2-4 from beyond the arc and he played 13 minutes. The rest of the team was 3-16. The early part of the 4th quarter, we completely collapsed on offense. If you don't want teams to double down on your low post player, make a shot. If you don't want to get your big men in foul trouble, stop the penetration.
relax it was his first game. im sure he had to be a tad nervous out there. the rockets offense was fine, the only mistakes he made was that rice should have been in the game earlier hes been on fire lately he belongs on the court. Yao didnt get enough touches and sat out to much of the 4th. Im sure Larry will correct his errors if hes in charge tommorw night. One thing is you cant fault the rockets effort they were clearly motivated everything they did was 110%. What good coaches do is to have their team play hard, they rockets clearly didnt lack effort tonight im sure larry had to have something to do with that.
