http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2079547763/jagged-alliance-flashback Yes, another Kickstarter thread Since I guess this forum is read by slightly older demographic which doesn't necessarily follow the gaming news that actively - but used to play strategy/RPG games in the 90's - I thought this might interest some people. For those unfamiliar with it, Jagged Alliance series is a "cult classic" from the 90's and especially the 3rd game, Jagged Alliance 2 (yes, 2), was and is one of the greatest turn based strategy/RPG games ever released, a little bit in the mold of X-COM series - only with mercenaries and dictators in place of soldiers and aliens. Game is still in pre-production without much actual game material to show for and that's probably the biggest reason why it's having so much trouble getting pledges right now. Also, their Kickstarter campaign is in my opinion sympathetic but botched in many ways and a pretty good lesson on "This is how you don't want to do a Kickstarter campaign" with confusing lay-outs and originally badly designed pledge tiers etc. There are of course good and promising things too, like the way they have included the fans and the JA2 modding community in the design process already in the early phases. The original creator of the series, Ian Currie has also given his endorsement and the developers have managed to get some of the original Jagged Alliance people in advisory roles, like Chris Camfield who was the lead designer in Jagged Alliance 3, which unfortunately never saw the light of the day due to financing and other troubles. Brian Fargo and Kevin Saunders of inXile have also mentioned this in their tweets as something they are willing to support, if that counts for some people. The developing company also specializes in turn-based games and are definitely not doing a RTS game. Since turn based combat was one the key elements of the originals (with exploring done real time), this is reassuring as the last few games marketed in the name of Jagged Alliance have pretty much been a bad attempts at changing the game system to something that the series is not about. Check it out if interested. Could be good, could be a turd, who knows? I'm definitely in since Jagged Alliance 2 is maybe, along with the Fallout series, the game I've played the most and is still kicking and alive with a very active modding community. I'll bump this with some news: 78 hours left $252K pledged (72%) While there is still not much game material, the developers gave us a downloadable "diodrama" that reveals more of the game's graphics style etc. This obviously isn't final and is somewhat unfinished but I'm already digging the style. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2079547763/jagged-alliance-flashback/posts/483607 Fan-made video of the diodrama: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EXjxIJRj66o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And Some pics of it below: Spoiler This going to be a close one. While most of the Kickstarters show huge upward curve in pledges in the last few days, I'm not sure that's going to be enough. But everything is certainly still possible.
