Seriously, if there were more Asians in the NBA, Lin would not have nearly the same amount of exposure he does now.

Strange how Asians in baseball don't really have the same effect as basketball. They still get a lot of press from their home country but there's really none of the crazy message board following or maybe I just don't visit the right forums.

That's what I'm saying. Look at the list of past and present Asian players in the MLB. There's so many of them compared to the 9 Asian players that have ever played in the NBA, and more than half of them didn't play major minutes let alone started. Jeremy is like the second Asian American in the NBA, the first one played in like 10 games total in the NBA, or something. If there ever was an Asian QB, I don't know, the world might explode..

Tony Parker, Steve Nash clone and future all star.... Lol... I won't say you're wrong because I can't see the future. But Lin accounted for 5 wins (4th on the team) and Beverly accounted for 3 and that was coming off the bench playing half of a season.

All I can say is that Lin has some competition... But that's a good thing because it will increase the point guard productivity as a whole.

It's important to make the distinction between Asians and Asian-Americans. Guys like Ichiro and Matsui were big in Japan, but nowhere near as big as Jeter or Pedro in American because watching sports isn't nearly as big in Japan, or anywhere in Asian, as it is in America.

Most of the message boards fanatics are Asian-Americans and basketball is easily the most popular sport among Asian-Americans. I think that's the reason why there's so much more buzz about Lin than Yu Darvish right now. Plus the whole Linsanity story was fun.

Now all we need is a James Harden, Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Beverley and Carlos Delfino appreciation thread.

Soccer is taking over in Japan. Kids want to play soccer more than baseball now. There are more news stories about Kagawa (the Manchester United striker) than Darvish. Ichiro has hardly been mentioned for several years now.

Morey and McHale said that Lin's play during Linsanity is his upside but they added that no one expects him to play at that level in in Houston.

Lin's play was at an average starting PG level this year (average starter is pretty good in the NBA). Linsanity level of play is Hall of Fame level and fans shouldn't expect that from him. If he improves from 15 to being a top 10 starting PG and helps the Rockets win... I will be more than happy.

Keep perspective. He's not a scrub and not an HOF. He's a solid PG that has a good work ethic, drive, determination, elite acceleration, good court vision, and playmaking abilities (passing).

    Appreciated. :)

NY just crashed out to the Pacers.

    Felton was a non-factor.

Probably a positive for Lin's career.

Interesting to see Melo's and JR's faces... looks like "We are never going to win a championship with this team"

I was never expecting to see Linsanity in Houston, but I definitely expected to see better than what he played considering all the hype and his price tag...

You can spit out all of his attributes you want but they don't matter if they don't translate into wins. He needs to work on his defense, his outside shooting, protecting the ball, and playing off the ball... Those are things Beverly surpasses him in.

And I didn't call him a scrub, I said he's going to have competition...

He's an average NBA pg. Rockets can do better than settle for someone like Lin.

This is a Jeremy Lin appreciation thread, that's why I was pointing out his good attributes. I agree with all the weaknesses you pointed out but they have been pointed out in a plethora of threads out there. I believe the OP started this thread precisely because of all the negativity in other threads.

Those are things Beverly surpasses him in.

I would tend to agree with you except outside shooting, I think they're a wash.
But Lin > Beverley and Beverley is not going to start over Lin. But I really do like Beverley energy, the sky is the limit for that kid.

If you think about it, it's not easy to get those numbers.

And keep in mind, he's playing alongside a ball dominant sg/pg.

Thank you Jlin....wishing you the best.

the linsanity lin was with lin leading the team. that is all star pg level.

come melo and harden, and of course you would expect lin to defer. also consider harden as one of the main ball handlers. with this in context, yes, this current lin is at an avg pg level due to the current team set-up.

im still glad he has that potential to lead teams as the main guy.

    appreciated again :D

    Totally agree.

I think Morey said he is always looking to improve every position.

The mere fact Lin is an average PG means there are 14 PGs better than him at the moment. Of course you would just trade for any of them, you'd have to consider fit, age, skill set, upside... etc.

Uh.. Linsanity was mediocre? Maybe we should call it Lindiocre then.

BTW, only a player who is gone deserve an appreciation thread. It is equivalent to a eulogy.

Not bored. I'm really having fun on Clutch Fans. This forum is easily the most "unboring" forum I've ever been on.

The dynamics between the old timers and the new bloods, the LOFs and the Haters, the insiders and the doubters... it all very fascinating.

When I went to Uni I was feeding in punch cards at the computer lab and the internet was text-based and just used for searching other uni libraries. This year was the first time I watched games whilst reading the game thread at the same time... was very interesting to me.

Very interested in how the internet is changing the way people view sports. Its lots of fun.
