I believe Yao wrote it himself. I doubt Colin Pine, a professional translator would do such a poor job.

Here's the stupid question of the day: if Yao sends email to friends back in China does he use a keyboard with Chinese symbols on them? I'd never really thought about that until now. How does that work?
There's no Chinese symbol keyboard (they are too many Chinese words so you can't have a keyboard covering all of them). I use an English keyboard but can type Chinese by using some typing methods.
There are various ways like Cang Jie - compose a chinese word using 25(I guess)different strokes and radicals. Like Ming in Chinese, could be broken up into a sun radical and a moon radical. Pin Yin - the simplest way IMO, I only know this way. If you want to type Yao Ming in Chinese, just type Yao Ming by pressing the approraite keys that correspond to the syllables. Jiu Fang - this is a new method, just use the number pad (1-9) on your keyboard and you could type a Chinese word. Btw, that David Wen who did the translation really sucks. A 10-year-old could write better than him.
To follow up on the dumb question, I've got one my self. If they don't have keyboards in Chinese because of the amount of letters, than what type of keyboards do they have in China? Huge ones? Seriously wondering. I know this doesn't have to do with Rox ball but is still bugging me.
The keyboards they use in China are no different to the those people use everywhere in the world with A-Z, 0-9 and all the special keys.
I'm really confused. So if they don't have keyboards in Chinese, they have to use the english versions and just manipulate the different letters to look like Chinese? Similar to the ;-) is a symbol for a winking face? If that is the case it sure seems like there would be some serious limitations.
standard keyboards just like the one u r using. Every single keyboard, including yours, could type Chinese, provided that your computer could display them.

There are very different way of typing Chinese, traditional version or simplified version. For example, if I want to use Chong Ke method (not very sure about its English name) to type Yao Ming, I only need to switch to the Chong Ke mode, then type "vlmo" for ›L (Yao) "ab" for –¾ (Ming). Clear?
And my keyboard is same as you. Totally English and normal. So in using my typing method. Yes keys V L M O can become the Chinese word of Yao.
