As I said, it would be a great way to travel if it was affordable. It is very convenient, much more so than NJT or driving through a tunnel or over a bridge. Chinatown doesn't have wifi but there are other bus companies that do have wifi and which cost about the same.
I've been wanting to take a train ride on amtrak for the hell of it. Maybe from Texas to Arkansas or from Dallas to San Antonio and back. I haven't ridden on a train since I was a kid. Here's a pic (I'm 837th from the front in the white shirt - I'm waving) :
I've taken Amtrak from southern Illinois 300 miles north to Chicago, and the train was literally full of recently released inmates from the maximum security penn in Marion, IL.
I guess if you've got time and want to spend the money it's an interesting journey (I haven't done it, but I've been looking at taking one from California to Seattle or to Chicago). I don't imagine the journey is all too scenic from Houston to California, but would be interested in finding out otherwise.
Yea just interested in seeing parts of America most people have never seen. The pecos river bridge is stunning. Also the salton sea.
Depends on which routes you take. Where the infrastructure is nice in the NEC, Amtrak is fantastic and easily beats flying or taking a bus/driving. But outside of that area where Amtrak has to let freights pass, it's excruciatingly slow and subpar. Although the trains seem to be always full though lol.
Yup, the long trips suck, but the shorter trips are fine. What makes the long trips suck even more are the technical difficulties that happen more than they should and you end up one tracking for hours. I used to take it from DC into Canada.
My family and I used to go vacationing to the Amtrak. It's like a cruise, cept slower. One time I got off, walked, and got to the destination before the train.
