I can rip music CDs with Windows Media Player but it will not allow me to do the same for DVDs. Any suggestions?
1. give your dvd copies to me. 2. give me your external hard drive you want your movies saved to it 3. which files you want to do it in, avi,dvd-r,image,mpeg,mkv 4. buy me a royce white jersey with tire marks on it and you got yourself a deal
This much I know about they, but there must be somekind of software I can purchase or download to accomplish this task.
DVD Shrink will rip them and shrink them for you into an ISO to put on your PC. If DVD Shrink won't rip them, first DECRYPT them with DVD Decrypter http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ and then SHRINK with DVD Shrink. If you want to save as MPG or a non-iso or non-dvd format, use other software.
That's how most DVDs play the files. In ISO files, it's the entire DVD in one file that you then either mount virtually as a DVD drive, or have ImgBurn (or any DVD image-burning software) put onto a disc for you. MPG can be played by Media Players and PS3, etc., but ISO cannot be. Some MPG is high quality. I mentioned MPG format because that's a media type file you can play without a DVD player in almost any computer with Windows Media Player.
I like to convert to AVI. Here are guides that can help you. for DVD to AVI, go to section Divx and Xvid http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/
This software is FREE today: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/aiseesoft-blu-ray-ripper-6-3/ RIP Blu-Rays!
how can you convert iso files into MPEG or the like? I used a free program, but it plastered its name all over the video unless I paid for the software. Any free methods?
Keep in mind that an ISO file is the entire DVD, not just MPG or VIDEO. It contains all the information to burn the ISO into a DVD to make a copy with the proper software like imgBurn. Ripping the MPG will not give you the DVD interactivity, programming, linked menus, etc., from a DVD. There are many programs out there if you search right, but the more readily available one out there is DVDx. It's not all that user-friendly, but it does the job. You won't get HIGH-QUALITY from DVDs straight to MPGs, though. http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-a-DVD-to-an-AVI-or-MPG-File-Using-DVDx or MPEG Streamclip: http://seattlecommunitymedia.org/books/creating-mpeg-2 I don't usually do any of the two. I don't have a need, but I would use DVDx if I need to. The only time I would need to do that is if someone gives me a home-made DVD from which they want me to take out the video, but since it's already on DVD, they hardly ever ask for that.
dvd fab is what i used to rip a bunch of stuff before i realized i could just d/l hd movies from the bay..
forget all that usless extras crap they put on dvds like deleted scenes, bloopers, & director .. convert the movie to mp4 and be done with dvds, throw them in the garbage like i did.. if you want sub titles, matroska is a good container...
