Things like the Flag, Constitution etc etc Looking at the Flag Stomping threat . . . I got to wondering what . . if anything . . . in America is Sacred? Freedom of Speech? No . . it is curbed all the time Flags? PPPHhhhTTTT I point those two out to say there is nothing physical or in principal Sacred . . in our country I don't think we even hold human life as sacred in this country Rocket River . . . yea yea yea . . get off my lawn!
I think even 5 years old can learn that there really aren't any absolutes in life. A pity you haven't.
Not if we have hyperinflation, I bet it will happens in the US one of these days. Not even gold is sacred. My guess is there is nothing that is sacred forever.

Why do things have to be considered sacred by everyone? Doesn't seem logical. There are things sacred to you, and things not sacred to you. One of the core functions of religion is to centralize sacredness (is that a word?) to then be able to drive people through a common sacred idea. A flag or the concept of a country works very similarly. It used to be that people decided for themselves what's sacred or not, but instead the schools are teaching people that nationality is sacred, flags are sacred, etc. For the same reasons really, to consolidate control. So I would say in America, the concept of America as an empire is sacred. Few people question it (and they are considered radicals), it's almost like a right, and withdrawing from it is considered giving something up. E.g. The "loss" of China. From my limited observation, this is true of the extreme majority of people who vote for either party.
Actually, I will amend my statement... The pursuit of money is sacred. Nothing will gain you pariah status faster than denying the need for more and mine.
Actually one of the things i find truly annoying about many people in the US is how sacred they hold the founding fathers, American flag, and just America in general. I really dislike the nationalistic attitude many in the US have (that being said i dislike nationalism everywhere).
Same here, although nationalism is perfectly acceptable (and indeed, even desirable) in small doses- we tend to go a bit over the top here.
I don't think people working in the non-profit sector or trying to do good at the expense of their own wealth are considered pariahs.
Pariah may be too strong a term for charitable activities. But I know folks working in those industries. Personal friends and family members, some. Some live very poor and difficult lives as a result of these choices. And they do often get a lot of insinuated or subtle pity, even consternation. As if they chose a poor path and should have left charity to those who can afford it. In any case, I'll rescind the term "pariah": Better?
