For all those that think Asik, at his price tag, is a better value than Howard at max contract... Morey disagrees with you. And that's really all that needs to be said.
Do not forget, centers on average in the NBA take at least 1-2 more years to fully mature than other smaller players. With that said DH has 8 years under his belt compared to Omer's 3. Omer has reached just under DH numbers with his 1st full season under his belt. With that said I believe Omer's ceiling to be that of Marc Gasol. A low post presence with defensive ability as well as offense ability dependent upon Asik's further abilty to grab passes and dunk ability. If he can also develop a baby hook that would also further his game. Now, having stated that you would think DH is in the prime of his carrer. I think he can still average 20/10 a game if he was on THIS team. Let's face it, this years Lakers were a team with a whole lot of mouths to feed. There are big ego players on the lakers that have been there before Howard, which brings upon a playground mentality of see new kid, rival new kids abilities, challenge new kid. DH never had to go through such a thing with Orlando. He was the man. I don't think DH sucks when being supplemented with other stars. I think DH sucks when there are TOO many stars. Including one in the paint that needs to be around the rim to succeed as well (Pau). People need to realize that DH is a wrecking force in the paint, and when you clog it prematurely with 2 other bigs from the opposing team as well as your own teammate in pau, bad things can only happen. I believe the ideal DH team would be: Chris Paul 1 (Quick pass first PG, with good offensive potential to make plays) James Harden 2 (Pure scorer which can adjust defenses with drive ability) Chandler Parsons 3 (Hybrid def/off SF who can play D as well as hit the 3 ball) Love/Aldridge/Smith 4 (A tall 4 that does relies on a mid range shot that can grab our wings rebs) Dwight Howard 5 (Behemoth in the paint that can put back, hook, jam, and clean the glass by himself as well as kick it out) But all things don't go this way in the NBA, to me DH is DH, and Omer is just Omer. Ones game is already set in stone and the Latter is just beginning. If the Rockets are looking to win soon, then I believe they will get DH. However, if they want to see what Asik can become, they will keep him.
Ho-Ward had a golden opportunity to lead the Lakers...Tiago Splitrer, Boris Diaw & Baynes neutralized his ass...if he was a dominating center he should drop 40 on those three but no he got kicked out the last game cause he let them dictate his play nor very dominating to me???
How many times did Omer sit out in the 4th do to us blowing out teams. He only avg. 30 mins a game this season (whole nother quarter of play with a OT) ...
That's because he played for a coach that literally has NO CLUE how to use a big man. Howard was completely lost on that team, and had no direction as to what his role was. When he just freestyled with Gasol, it was a thing of beauty. And to say he SHOULD have dropped 40 is ridiculous.....Popovich is 100x the coach Pringles is. There is no way he was going to let Howard destroy them in that series. He was the only weapon the Lakers had.
You must be getting checks from Howard cause you are hard on his campaign train lol...got more excuses than a man living under a bridge
This is a link from Jay Howard who is obvious an outside perspective on why Omer should have won MIP this year http://youtu.be/TV5YrIfM36E
Please keep our players out of International Teams. It has been nothing but a burden of a trend for NBA teams. Keep his ass healthy, and don't follow the path of Yao Ming. For The Love of GOD!!!
Ha ha ha that's hilarious that you just pick some random video from some random guy who says Omer should've won MIP this season. Because since Jay Howard said he should've won MIP, obviously that means we should want him over D12....cause D12 never won that!!! ha ha ha News Flash: MIP does not translate to championships. And for the record since 1985 (the 1st year of the MIP award) not a single NBA player who has ever won the "MIP Award" has ever gone on to win an NBA Championship. Reason being: if you're really good enough to ascend your team to greatness, you would win the "MVP" and not the "MIP". Not to say that some good players haven't won the MIP, because they have; I'm just saying those players typically don't really do much better than MIP.
Hmm so if Howard is such a dominate player how come the Lakers couldn't even win a single game against the Spurs?
D-League starters, terrible bench, everyone else plays terrible D, Coach is terrible...List goes on. Oh and played the rejuvenated Spurs.
The same reason LeBron couldn't in 07', the same reason Shaq couldn't against the Rockets in 96', the same reason Jordan couldn't against the Celts in 86-87....because sometimes the better player runs up against a better team. I am obviously in favor of bringing in CP3 or Howard if either want to be here, but you guys who are against it aren't even making legitimate arguments against it. Because Dwight Howard couldn't single handedly beat arguably the best team in the NBA right now all by himself with a terrible coach? C'mon dude....
I'm not too sure about that. Morey has said that stars are worth more than the max. Howard is a game-changer on defense when he's healthy. He is exactly what Houston needs.
Asik has already shown he is willing to put in the work to improve and he shows consistent effort on the court. If he just can work hard on catching the ball and develops a lil touch around the rim and learn to consistently go up for dunks instead of layups _ he could be a 13-15 points a game player next season. I think his shot blocking got a little better as the season went on and he's too good of a defender that he can't improve on that. I'm kool with sticking with Asik and staying away from Howard.
They chances of him having fun, being besties with Kobe and winning a 'ship with the Lakers is even lower.
