Watching his highlights against the Roxs, his defense reminds me of David Lee's. Like how he simply make little effort to contest drives and sort of just lets them through.
I'll be rooting for Big Al to end up in Atlanta. It's a good situation for him. A very good defensive PF who can shoot and pass, a number of very good shooters at the perimeter. They wouldn't be a legit contender but I think they'd keep winning around 50 games. Another interesting situation would be the Cavs. Varejao is essentially a huge PF defensively, and Thompson/Varejao/Al would be a very intriguing rotation. Add Kyrie, Waiters and maybe Otto Porter. That said, I think both of these teams would be wise to try to go after Pekovic first. As for the Rockets, I don't see the fit if you are keeping Asik. I'd look at Millsap first.
If what you said was true, then why do Zach Randolph, David West, Cousins, David Lee, and Brook Lopez among others all have more free throws ( in some cases, quite a few more free throws) given that they're comparable foul shooters to Jefferson? And regardless of how good Jefferson is at the line, the ability to draw fouls is beneficial even if you aren't that good at making them - it was a large part of how Denver's offense clicked this season. After all, even if you go one out of two, you get the opposing team in the penalty earlier and potentially cause the coach to send in weaker players due to foul trouble. I DO like Jefferson more than Smith, though that is the definition of damning with faint praise. But I don't like either a whole lot. West is my preferred plan B, followed by Millsap.
I'm glad that you have no clue what Morey will do. And he would never be stupid enough to listen to you.
As long as we go after Howard and CP3 first, and fail at acquiring them, then i have no issues with going after jefferson. As long as the money isn't outrageous I think it could end up being a solid signing. Some of you are undervaluing his abilities. I think as a PF next to asik some of his defensive liabilities will also be masked. I've always liked Jefferson's game and the low post presence that he would provide us would be warmly welcomed.
One last thought......since people love to use the stat "PER" around here to bring up how certain players are so great well Mr.Jefferson's Per is nearly 21. If you think he doesn't get us over the hump and would be too expensive that is fine. I won't argue with you. With that said Jefferson is clearly a very good PF in this league who puts up big numbers and has a superior low post game. Deal with it.
I watched that video 10 times and what I saw is Milsap get beat time and time again by Lin on the pnr. Milsap get beat by Asik and and Milsap get blown by DMo. Yeah Big al wasn't a great rim protector but Milsap looked worst in that video. Also it's a really bad sample because it only shows the rockets scoring. No stops shown by the Jazz and there must have been some because Al got 11 boards that game. I agree Al is not the best defender but your video showed me Milsap is worse. I would not take Milsap over jefferson. Also Big Al has a connection with coach. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UXVgqke7PQ4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Exactly I know he's not a great defender. But he is better than what we have right now. And we have the luxury of putting him along side Asik. People do not realize how great a defender Asik is. Everyone thinks Greg Smith is terrible and maybe that is true but the fact is when you put greg smith in their with Harden at the 4 you are asking him to do it all on his own. He is the last line of defense. He can't do that. Not many in the league can. Asik can. We are still a good defensive team with Harden at the 4 and Asik manning the 5. Take Asik out and we fall apart. Big Al is a better defender than Harden. A bettter defender than any of our 4's. I know that's not saying much but with Asik that works.
yep that would be more reasonable. if the Rockets sign lets say Smith and then are able to sign and trade Lin for Big Al and keep Asik for depth / further trades, it makes much more sense than making Al the only offseason acquisition.
I could not agree more. Who in the NBA commands a double team in the post if not Big Al? He's literally the most dominant post threat in the current NBA (considering he has true size, unlike a Z-Bo). It seems a lot of people here don't watch the NBA at large (or just watch mainstream media outlets for sports like ESPN). Flip Saunders just said about working on ESPN, "It's different, I mean you only have to watch and know about 5 teams."
Oh i would take Al Jeff over Millsap in a heartbeat. I like Al Jeff don't get me wrong, i just don't think he makes us a legit title contender. Like i've said before, if we miss out on Dwight or CP3, we're most likely trading for Pau Gasol and his expiring contract and join the free agent bidding once again in the summer of 2014.
Sure, Morey will look into Big Al and J-Smoove as plan B's but they will prove to be too expensive for his taste at the end of the day. Trust me guys, there is a GM out there that will give Josh Smith a max type contract and it won't be Mr. Morey.
I know Morey is NOT going to go after Al Jefferson(unbelievably low cost notwithstanding) while he's 150% likely to go after Dwight "no-want-if-Asik-here" Howard. It's one thing if you argue for CP3 in lieu of Howard. But Al FREAKING Jefferson? Jazz fans would be laughing their asses off if that happened.
