Has Vitale ever taken back what he said about Yao?

I know he said some harsh things about Yao and very good things about Jay Williams. Does anyone know if he has admitted he was wrong about Yao being a bust?

"I still feel that Yao Ming could be the second coming of LaRue Martin, the big man who was a first-round bust of the Portland Trail Blazers in 1972."

"My gut feeling tells me the Rockets are making a mistake, baby, in evaluating their overall No. 1 pick. Still, Rudy T could shock America by having NBA commissioner David Stern announce Williams' name as the top pick. Then Houston would be moving toward the winner's circle."

I never knew he said anything about Yao. But Vitale is an ass, so put two (he's an ass) and two (you saying he said something bad bout Yao) together and that equals that you're right.

Dick Vitale has no idea what he's talking about anymore. He may know some college basketball (maybe), but he certainly aint no draft expert!

Someone should get Mel Kiper Jr to do the NBA Draft.

Thank God we didn't listen to this Dick and pick Jay "Backup" Williams #1, or we'd surely be moving toward the winner's circle. The winner's circle for the NBA Lottery. :D

I feel bad for Vitale. Anyone who saw his interview with Harrick knows what I'm talking about. No one gives a **** about Vitale not even his friends.

Vitale is biased towards college players and that much is obvious in his criticism against Yao Ming. If Yao had played in College even for a few years then Vitale would have been all over his jock.

Vitale is biased towards Duke. If Yao Ming had played in Duke, I am sure Vitale would say he was the best player in the draft.

Do you really care anyways? I mean...Dick Vitale seems like he has an orgasm everytime someone makes a nice play in a college game and during that orgasm he just repeats stupid crap like "are you serious?" or "are you kidding me?" a few dozen times. He also seems like he's reaching the land of the senile pretty soon.

I still think he gets paid by ESPN just for having those orgasms during the games, because my 9 yr old niece can probably talk about the game of basketball more articulately than him.

I'm not sure if he wrote an article on it, but I remember him on tv talking about how wrong he was.

As if everyone didn't already know.

after hearing him do the commentary at a lebron james' game, i was starting to wonder if, "Are you serious?" was james' nickname. to paraphrase someone on this bbs, someone wipe the j*zz off of vitale's leg.

Like the other guy said...this is Dukey V we're talking about. The year before it was Battier, Battier, then Jay Williams. I suppose the most coveted guard will be Duhon this year. Although I'm not sure I like how much he raves about T.J Ford (who is a serious baller)

Vitale also stated that going into last year's draft, Jay Williams was the second best point guard in the entire COUNTRY, behind Gary Payton!

The 2nd best pt in the country......geez what an idiot!

Jay Williams, Mike Dunleavy, Shane Battier, Trajan Langdon should all give Vitale half of their rookie contracts for the shameless Duke PR-spewing that comes out of his hole!

Vitale, like John Madden, is an entertainer rather than a commentator. I'm not sure if he ever really was an analyst, but I'm sure a great deal of his silliness is an act. He knows what people want, and expect, and gives it to them. He's OTT, sure - it's what he's paid to do.

They were also both former coaches, which in my opinion, gives them more credibility than 90% of the other so-called analysts.

Vitale has a Duke bias but everyone has their biases. And everyone is wrong sometimes.

Vitale also gave huge props to Steve Francis coming out of college saying he was the best player in the draft.

No one knew Dick Vitale better than his wife: You are getting pink-slipped, baby!

    http://espn.go.com/talent/danpatrick/s/2002/1114/1460784.html

Dan Patrick: Lowest moment in your coaching career?

Dick Vitale: Getting fired! I was on such a quick ride. I went from a head coach in high school to the NBA in seven years. And it all came to an end with this guy walking into my house. I got a call that Mr. Davidson, the owner of the Pistons, wanted to see me at my house before practice. We were getting ready to play Dr. J and the 76ers.

I remember telling my wife that he was finally going to listen to me, that we were going to make the changes I talked about. Let the coach have some responsibility. She said, "You're getting fired." She said, "I'll go around the block and I'll come back when the limousine leaves. But you better prepare yourself for getting fired."

He comes in very low-key and he says "Dick, I've decided to make a coaching change." I started crying. I was stunned. I was just 12 games into my second year.

It was a great learning experience for me. Your phone stops ringing. All the people you call up don't return calls. It's such a strange world. You find out about family and real friends. My parents taught me so much about this kind of stuff. To work hard and to be good to people. I miss them so much.

My parents weren't very educated but they had a doctorate in love. My father couldn't understand it when I got fired. To him, I was better than John Wooden and Red Auerbach. They said, "Are they crazy? Don't they know what they have?" My parents always made me feel I was the best at whatever I did.
