This is the first season the Rockets had overachieved above expectations

I thought about it, this was the first time the Rockets actually overachieved from the beginning of the season's expectations.

Even in '94-'95, when we won the championship from the sixth seed, we were expected in the beginning of that season to contend or repeat as defending champs.

Nobody...and I mean, NOBODY, even after we got Harden, expected us to make a series out of the first round of the playoffs this year. And to think we almost pulled off a historical upset.

I'm satisfied. Very satisfied. We are three years ahead of rebuilding schedule. All it takes is one badass free agent to turn us into a contender. We are this close, ladies and gentlemen.

I think the Rockets have been exceeding the national media's expectations, maybe not their own, for many years in a row.

It would be interesting to compare how frequently each team exceeds the bookmakers preseason expectations.

Sorry, but you could not be more wrong. The Rockets have overachieved almost every year starting in '00-01.

With that lineup we had when Mcgrady and Yao left, I was expecting us to be a in the 1-5 range in every draft but we were always 9th seed-ish. Phoenix pretty much has the same team we had last year but they only won like 20 games. That's overachieving IMO.

I expected last year's team to make the playoffs. That was a pretty good team we had, certainly possible for an eighth seed.

This year it was just Harden and a bunch of D-Leagers and 2nd round draft picks. If someone asked me two seasons before which team would have made the playoffs and lasted to Game 6 as an eighth seed, I would have picked last year's team 10 out of 10 times.

None of us knew Asik and Parsons would be this good.

I felt like every year since Yao went down we could have easily been predicted a bottom 8 team, yet have not had a losing season in a while.

I think 'almost every year' was a little bit of an exaggeration. But 'several times' wouldn't be. I would say '00-01, '02-03, '07-08, '08-09, '09-10, '10-11, '11-12, and this year.

I joined cf and become a rockets fan coz of Lin nice to know some history and the knowledge that this season is awesome. I am not saying it's because of Lin, I am not blind, but the team growing together and having fun while doing it. Rockets grew on me and i miss Toney D and PPat. They could have contributed something in the offseason. But it is ok, we got Garcia! Who would have known?

Parsons showed how good he can be in bursts last season and anyone who watched the Bulls knew Asik was a defensive monster. The bulls had a better defensive and rebounding plus per minute with Asik then Noah. There was a reason why we had to give him that contract that the Bulls couldn't afford to match it.

No. The Rockets underachieved expectations this season. Majority of fans on Clutchfans clearly expected the Rockets to beat OKC, which they failed to do so.

The Rockets were expected to steamroll over OKC, Spurs, Nuggets, Memphis, Clippers and any or any other opposition on their way to face the only team they considered their equal (not inferior) - the Miami Heat.

This season has been a major major major letdown, and the Rockets need to blow up the team and rebuild.

    Pretty much this.

It gets pretty ridiculous when people in the game threads are calling for Lin or Harden or whoever had a bad game, to be traded.

I wish those posters could be temporarily banned.

I think we overachieve every year. I even remember Barkley saying we would be the worst team in the West either last year or the year before.

I remember before the 09/10 season, several national media picked the Rockets won win 30 or less games once they knew Yao Ming was going to be out all year. People talk about how that team had no one to score and was gonna average 80 points a game.

They have had pretty much same record for the last 3 or 4 years. The last time they truely overachieved was when they had that 22 game winning streak. That team played to the best of its capabilities.

Once again I don't think a lot of Clutchfans know history. The 1986 Rockets that went to the Finals hugely overachieved. While it was expected that the Twin Towers would make it big in the NBA no one, especially the mighty Lakers, thought they would do it in only the second year of the Twin Towers.

The 1994-1995 Rockets even though they were defending champions few gave them a chance of repeating. Few thought they could beat the Jazz in the first series, few thought they could beat the Suns in the second especially when they were down 3-1, and even fewer thought they could beat the best team in the NBA the Spurs with MVP David Robinson. Even after beating those teams the Rockets weren't favored against the Orlando Jazz with a young Shaq steamrolling people yet the Rockets swept them.

Besides those great seasons the 2009 Rockets still exceeded expectations by beating the Blazers in the first series with no McGrady and losing Mutumbo early on. They took the Phil Jackson and Kobe Lakers to 7 games even after losing Yao in game two.

This has nothing to do with whether or not you overachieved. Surely you know that.
