I see the same thing with you. Harden is no tier-1 super star for ever

I think something very big is being missed here.

Greg Smith relies upon the penetration, and dish, of the point guard. That's how he gets about 80% of his points. And guess what? Beverley is not a good penetrator, and is a very below-average passer. Beverley tonight in 33 minutes had ZERO assists. Last game he had only ONE assist in over 35 minutes. That is completely unacceptable for a point guard, and especially if Reggie Jackson is guarding you.

Greg Smith needs a penetrate/dish pg like Jeremy Lin in order to score points. Its that simple.

Nice thread, but I respectively disagree. What killed us this series? One word, TURNOVERS. Had we taken care of the ball better we'd won this in 5 games.

Crucial Harden turnovers killed us and our momentum! Its just this time, no one saved his ass like in Game 4!

I'm not a fan of the blame game, but yes, I agree that Asik needs help. Whether or not that's Smith or Jones working in the summer, or via trade - he, Asik, needs help.

While agree there are other factor involved, Greg Smith never seems to be rotating correctly on defense. He can be okay a post defender on his own man, but his rotations are awful and he is like a broken ATM machine giving out free fouls.

This team is still very young, inexperienced and flawed, it's best to appreciate the way they're playing and be looking forward to their bright future. Nice that they have gained some valuable experience in this series.

    Thanks for the OP.

somewhat agree... we need a solid big - backup center or power forward.... basically, we need another piece, so we can endure nights when other players just don't have it...

We need shore up on our perimeter defense as well. We can't rely on Garcia and Delfino, who are both past their prime, to do much more next season.

Westbrook, before he got injured, exposed our awful transition defense, and Durant scored on coast-to-coast layups and dunks at key moments as well.

Greg Smith just was overwhelmed under pressure. It's imperfect and unbalanced roster in the evolution process. I wished McHale had guts to play Robinson/Jones a little to give them some precious experience.

True, but in terms of what we've "learned" as in what we should patch up for the future, I don't think backup center is a worry. I'm certain Morey's already prepped his presentation to Dwight Howard on coming here. But even assume he doesn't come, we're still trying to develop our young bigs. And you'd think at least one of them will take a step forward to be good enough for backup C.

Assuming Dwight Howard doesn't come, a rental of Pau Gasol or Kevin Garnett would instantly solve the Rocket's 3 headed problems of starting PF, backup center, and second star. At least temporarily, until the next crop of max FAs pop up. I am hopeful of the development of the young bigs, but am more hopeful that Morey isn't banking on just that.

Rockets lost because they are not as good as the Thunder. Simple.

Also, I just realized that while it was great, wonderful that the Rockets won 2 games instead of getting swept, a lot of the "win" was because of Garcia and even Delfino. These are not long term Rockets.

The playoffs was great learning experience for Asik. He played 6 games as starting center and it will only help him in the future.

Harden played as the go to superstar and is good experience.

Wish Jeremy could have played more to get experience but he got hurt.

Founded a backup point guard, yes Beverly is the backup point guard and is not starting material. But he plays pretty good defense. But no assists from your PG simply cannot do.

Parsons became a quality player and maybe the super role player for this team. If he continues he may even be a star and that is great.

The black hole that is the PF position is screaming for help in off season.

Wish either TRob, TJones or DMo could have played in the playoff for some seasoning but they didn't. I think this was a wasted opportunity.

Lin had nothing to do with loosing this series except he was injured and couldn't play, wake up and see the real world.

Good point, I'm surprised we didn't see more Jones or even DMo might have matched up well against the Thunder

If we strike out on the big ticket free agents and stand pat, I wouldn't mind seeing DMo improve his strength and post defense and give us 18 minutes a night as the backup 5. Maybe he could make up for his defensive liabilities with his post game, to be a positive +/- player.

One could argue that either PPat and Morris were marginal NBA starting PFs, but once they were traded, the black hole at the position was probably the weakest link at one position in 25 plus years of being a Rockets fan.

Either one could have significantly helped in this series.
