Let's say you are correct, now take away those on max/rookie contracts, you are only left with:

Conley- avg 8 mil, 5 years
    Lowry- 6 mil, 2 years
    Hill- 8 mil, 5 years
    Dragic- 7.5 mil, 4 years

You know why Lowry and Dragic didn't work out. But as a FA PG, Lin is playing at his salary level. If you want a better point guard for the team, either tank or spend more money.

BTW just for reference, starting next year:
    Holliday- 10 mil, 4 years

Yes please... It will be easier to trade him for CP3 when time comes should Morey decide to get CP3 instead because he will perform better definitely.

Team ball and talents are both important. Nash's Suns he didn't have any other player that's dominant enough on the team. Stoudemire and Marion are not good enough, Nash made them better than they truly are.

Suns' primary problem isn't their offense at that time. It's their defense. I think that will be Rockets' major problem come playoff time.

This year Rockets aren't contending. Whether he performs up to his contract means little.

Next year onward, Lin will have to perform beyond his contract if the team is to contend for the title. The same applies for any one of the cores or starters.

Harden performs at 30 mil/year level
    Lin at 15
    Parsons at 8
    Asik at 20
    PF FA at 20 (Smoove)
    ---------------
    Total performance ~ 83 million

^ still short as compared to Thunder and Heat. I estimate current Heat at 110 mils and Thunder at 95 mils.

    Sign D12 as a FA and S & T Asik for PF

Lin - 15 (Performance in millions)
    Harden 30
    Parsons 8
    PF 20 (Smoove)
    D12 40 (peak performace pre-injury)
    -------------
    Total performace ~ 110 Million

^ This roster will not only contend but one of the favorites to win!

Lin at 8.3 or Lin at 15 could mean the difference between winning and losing. If Lin performs at 15, he will make everyone perform better. If he is only at 8.3, then this team just might fall short............

Beverley wouldn't last 30 minutes a game as a starter with that extremely high foul rate.

I think his high foul rate comes with his role as a bench player. His time in the game is limited so he has to provide optimal level of energy, causing fouls and what not.

So what you're saying is that our window for a championship is 2 years. Only Harden is locked in for longer than the next two years, and if you want everyone to perform ABOVE their contracts, when that contract expires they will go to the market and get their $$$ - essentially what Lin did last summer.

Oh, and BTW, Harden is not a $30M a year player.

If his energy level comes down, he will not earn the starting spot.

LeBron, for example, is worth $50M in performance. Wade, I estimate, is worth $25-30M, and if you add Bosh and role players, Heat performs well over 100M.

How will any team compete with Heat if its players dont perform above their contracts?

Harden might not be a $30M player TODAY, but to contend, he will have to become one.

Aside from stopping the clock at the end of games, when is it EVER optimal to have a PG backup or otherwise foul?

It's not a bad idea. Lin is more useful when Harden is not the primary ball handler. And Beverley is a nice defender.

If you hope this team is gonna stop being centered on Harden while Harden is on the floor, you're gonna be disappointed.

Curious as to what you guys think now as I've noticed a difference of a consensus opinion lately.

Now that Harden has matured before our eyes in Game 5, him and Lin are going to work together very well, they can play together.

He should def move to the 6th man role. It would give him more freedom to play to his strengths
