I'd like to keep Asik, even if we get Howard. Asik just needs to develop a midrange shot, which shouldn't be too far off given his shooting form, and the now you can slot him next to Howard while logging him as the backup C.

I like his work ethic and attitude and it's good to have around the locker room, a nice substitute for what Scola used to bring.

Few teams would have that of defensive domination with Howard, Asik, and then T-Rob for slot minutes at the 3.

Aldridge, Love, DH, JSmith in that order. Parsons, Asik, Lin for one of these guys.

First make a list of teams which have a great pf or c/pf:spurs, trail blazers, kings, magic, hawks, celtics, nets. Asik will also be a significant upgrade for thunder and clippers. Sell them on idea of creating a super frontcourt
Second, cross any western conference teams , that leaves magic, hawks, celtics and nets. Because a combo of Asik and duncan/cousins/Aldridge will make it very difficult for howard to carry rockets to final.
Third make a long wish list of players that will look good in rocket uniform because except for hawks, addition of asik will be a huge boost for any of the team. I think 2 celtics players and two draft picks will be a fair trade.

Asik has more value than howard at this point.

Love's value might be low enough that Asik + a cpl of our young pfs and some draft picks might entice them (The value might be benefited by Love being unwilling to extend in the future with more than a handful of teams)

I would trade Asik for Jeff Green plus a second round pick if we get Dwight. Jeff Green is a good shooter, slasher and very good athletic defender. I wouldn't trade Asik for Ryan Anderson, no way.

I'm not quite sure he's top 5. The bottom line is that Howard is THE top center in this league, and getting him would require Asik to sit on the bench a lot more than he does now. No way he could get 30 minutes a night. That doesn't allow us to maximize his value, but trading him for a PF would allow us to plug and play him next to Howard. Howard and Asik in at the same time clogs the lane, and has horrible spacing.

I like the idea of getting Kevin Love. His value is at an all-time low and Asik's is an all-time high. But, the Wolves also have Pekovic and seem to like him a lot.

Here Here a voice of reason. You don't trade Asik because the Drama King DH will end staying with Lakers. All the team needs a true PF and backup C.

keep asik even if we get howard, you can never have enough players

am i the only one that wonders if giving howard a max deal is such a good idea? first off the lakers season was a historic flop, secondly are injuries a concern? i just saw an article saying howard would not have shoulder surgery, but the fact that that was even an option makes me nervous...and finally he played with a ball-dominant 2 in kobe and had a bad season, why would playing with another ball-dominant 2 in harden be that much different? plus with guys like parsons and lin, howard would get even less touches...and we all know that he's a punk

before this season i would have said get howard at all costs, even after the dwightmare, but after this season, im not so sure anymore...most of the people on this board seem to watch more basketball than i do, but still im not sure i agree with them on this one...what did you guys see this season that made you think that dwight was still a beast? plus asik is literally the perfect center for this team, theyre young and developing chemistry, why mess with that? although i still think the chances of getting howard are pretty low

I'm perplexed at the fascination people have with Dwight. He's a total freaking cancer and drama queen for your team which will completely ruin your chemistry.

I don't care how good he is. I wouldn't want him on my team.

If we keep the same PF core, I could still see Asik getting 30 minutes a night. About 20 of those minutes might be next to Howard on the court though, which McHale would have to be in favor of.

I just don't see us playing him next to Howard. Not in our offense. I absolutely love Asik, he's a great hard worker who has improved a lot. I'll be happy if we don't get Howard and are able to keep him as our starting center. However, if you have a chance to get the top center in the league, you take it.

I don't see Asik getting enough minutes with Howard here, so trading him for a PF (which is a weak position for us too) would be able to maximize his value by getting a guy who can play big minutes next to Howard. That guy can't just be a scrub though, equal value is necessary.

It was probably a bad time to create this thread. Right before game 5 and he absolutely stepped up. Now fans see that and think we can easily get an all star for him. Hopefully GM's around the NBA feel the same way. He is what he is though. A top 10 center without a doubt, but I wouldn't say top 5.

This is the same crowd that wanted Scola gone and now look the team is still looking for a PF. DH I am hoping resigns with LA. He belongs there with all the actors.

No. We need to keep this core and let them grow together.
Dwight is not a Rocket type player.

Keeping Asik and spending the max on a PF like Love is starting to seem more appealing than Howard.

But Howard was not at full strength all season.

I agree that Dwight doesn't seem like a Rocket type of player. I think Dwight is very good when healthy, but he seems mentally weak to me.

The fact that Dwight is a horrible free throw shooter really bothers me. Asik is not a good free throw shooter, but Howard is even worse. In the final two minutes of the game do you really want to put the ball in the hands of a terrible free throw shooter?

QFT. Why in the world would we trade Asik? You can't even play Howard if it's a close game!
