its pretty unreal that Nick "the brick" anderson had 4, 4(!) free throw attempts to put the game away. One made 1-4 would've won the game for the magic and possibly shifted the momentum of the series..who knows.

Crazy. Then the kenny smith tie 3-ball! Destiny.

Can I say that Shaq at this point was already a more dominant player than hakeem was? .595 28ppg vs .482 32.8ppg, in which Olajuwon relied more on outside jumpers, fadeaways and broken plays to score, whereas Shaq was more unguardable in the post with his size. Reviewing the tape, Shaq has not been blocked once by Hakeem in the post from the vid. If he had i assume it'd be in the highlights. Shaq was also more effective in post-defense vs Hakeem than vice versa.

The reason why hakeem outplayed Shaq was cos Shaq as a youngster was flustering and had first-time finals jitters. I would be worried about a rematch against shaq in a playoffs series.

I think the main difference in the series was Kenny smith, Mario elie, vs nick Anderson & dennis Scott, since the stars pretty much nulled each other.

    Any opinions?

Did you even watch the tape?

Hakeem was killing Shaq. They had to guard him with Grant in for stretches in each game because Hakeem would put Shaq in foul trouble.

2nd greatest sports moment in my life. Attended game 4 with the late Steve McNair and sat next to the Rockets bench. Number 1 has to be attending the Pittsburgh Steelers Superbowl win over the Arizona Cardinals in 2009 with 2 sons. Dad for Life!!!

I watch this and laugh out loud thinking of Dream trying to teach Dwight Howard (or Yao) how to replicate these moves.

feel like hakeem gets SO underrated from casual NBA fans...

everyone remembers shaq's three-peats, but no one remembers hakeem embarassing the admiral OR shaq...

its more or less assumed that, hey, hakeem only won his when MJ was gone (Even though mj played in 95 playoffs, averaged 32-6-5 or so)

you must be talking about people who didn't watch basketball in 95.
That was one of the highest rated NBA playoff seasons of all time with lots of superstars, MJ, Dream,Barkley, Shaq, Robinson, etc

I'm 22, so I was about 4 or 5 during that series. I've seen highlights, but I think NBA fans around my age (sans Rockets fans) don't really recognize the greatness of Hakeem. Rather, they kind of shrug off our titles (and perhaps Hakeems place among the game's elites) because MJ wasn't around (also a funny notion because most people my age don't remember witnessing Jordan's reign in addition to Hakeems)

to add--a good portion of rockets fans may know that MJ played in the 95 playoffs, but i would venture to say that 95% of nba fans selectively dont remember this...it takes away from the legacy of mj, that he came back and didnt win in THAT playoffs...rather people remember:

mj had a 3-peat, was out for 2 years, and won another 3-peat. ive seen so many nba fans say he couldve won 8 in a row...this kind of solidifies to me that not a lot of ppl knew that MJ did indeed play in 95
