Amazing film. First of it's kind I had even seen, and it got me into watching more foreign films of the same genre.

Probably the most perfect ending to a movie ever.

Probably, but I couldn't think of any when he said it.

    Best one liners ever.

One of my absolute favorite movies.

    Some of my other favorites:

    2046
One Flew over the cuckoo's nest
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

It really is a tie for me between Blade Runner and Lawrence of Arabia, but I figured I should settle on just one. I've seen both several times, and I still remember sitting in a theatre when Lawrence came out and being completely blown away when he blew out that match. Simply a stunning film.

I think that movies, like all forms of art, are entirely subjective. As such, there cannot truly be a "best" movie, or even a better movie for that matter. There is only what you dig the most. For me, that is probably either The Empire Strikes Back or The Two Towers.

Tough call. My favorite move is This is Spinal Tap.

The best movie ever made is probably Brazil. Though A Face in the Crowd and Seven Samurai or Sympathy for Lady Vengeance are also possible.

City of Lost Children would get an honorable mention.

Wow, you are probably the 2nd person I know on CF that loves Lady Vengeance as much as I do.. Something about that movie it just hits you hard and the subject of revenge has never been stripped and examine the way this movie does/ it's' amazing.

Roland Emmerich to do Lawrence of Arabia mini-series

I can't think of a single worse person to helm a Lawrence of Arabia remake. Also, is nothing sacred?

The Count of Monte Cristo is the ultimate revenge story.

Totally agree. Also almost every shot in that movie could be a still in a museum. The way colors are so vividly used and the composition of each shot really is museum quality. Put that together with the crazy dark vengeance aspect in that movie. It's a one of a kind movie that was truly original.

From a purely imaginative standpoint, I would probably say The Wizard of Oz is the greatest film of all time. Other than that, I think Once Upon a Time in America certainly should be considered.

Funny how (unless I am blind and missed it) no one has mentioned Godfather I or II ..

I have always been ambivalent about those movies (gangster movies have never been my cup or tea), but I can't remember ever seeing a thread like this without a lot of people being gung-ho about GF & GFII..

Gotta throw Raiders of the Lost Ark in the hat too..

    Saving Private Ryan ..

    Ugh just too dang many..

heck you can't forget Pixar - Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Incredibles, Up ..

Cameron's movies.. T2, Aliens, and as much as goofy people want to rag on it, Avatar may end up being the 'game changer' that it was claimed to be, just on technical achievement alone, not to mention the spectacle that was created in the process.

    Ten Commandments..

Heck you could even throw in Christmas Story.. movies which absolutely everyone have seen, and loved.. Ferris Bueller's Day Off..

    The Sting

    Unforgiven

SO many movies I could just drop everything and watch..

And not to forget the crazy fun wire action movies..

    The Matrix

    Iron Monkey

    CTHD

    Kung Fu Hustle

    Big Trouble in Little China

even extremely underrated movies like The Crow & Blade

    :)

I can't pick one only.. it's like people have already said, it's entirely subjective..
