what's the deal with this guy? i think people get the idea. yeah, Ronnie boy, you're tough. he should be suspended for the rest of the season before he breaks someone's neck. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=230312020
He has some serious mental anger issues that need to be dealt with. Didn't someone from the west coast enroll in an anger management program last year? I think it was a Blazer; not surprising. There really need to be harsher penalties than a one game suspension for a guy like him. Shelf him for a week.
Yeah, he has problems...but a week??? It was just a flagrant foul. Sheesh...you act like you don't see flagrants very often.
Flagrants have no place in this game. Its bad sportsmanship and it could end someones career especially with how strong and fast guys are now. I have a friend that was going to make it on the UT squad as a walk on until some stupid little dude undercut him during a pick up game and ripped his knee apart. The dude was five foot nothing trying to defend a 6'4" guard on a fast break.
Well between now and the end of the season, he'll get a one or two game suspension for every single flagrant he gets. And I doubt that the refs will be hesitant to call them either. So, I think the punishment is appropriate. I believe he goes down to 4 flagrant points when the playoffs start, so he gets a freebie hack before he starts missing playoff games. He has really compromised his team's ability to compete and I imagine is part of the reason Indiana's been on a slide. I bet Indiana will get rid of him in a year or two.
Juan, I think you may be right on that one. It's too damn bad. He's Isiah's type of player (dirty) but has pushed the envelope too far. Now the refs will be watching him way too close. Dear Ron Artest, Take your medication.
btw, these "flagrant fouls" have been around since the inception of the nba, they just weren't tabbed with this name, nor given the overexposure they currently are given. before, it was normal and acceptable to damn near take a guys head off in certain situaitons. it was part of the game. now, it's all cake and ice cream and tough, hard nosed players like artest are penalized for bringing the "edge" to a game. for proof, look at indiana's record when artest plays vs. when he doesn't. i don't have it in front of me, but i know they are well below .500 when artest is out. players like rodman, laimbeer, maurice lucas, etc. would never make it in the nba today...they'd be suspended indefinitely. of course, all those players have multiple rings...
Did you guys actually see the foul? They showed it on ESPN - he went nuts, he basically chased the guy and tackled him down. This guys out of control. I bet the Pacer's skid doesn't help any.
