Does anyone have any predictions for the game? I say: 95-89 Rockets. I expect a rough start, but an excellent second half. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" ..and it is important that we get off to a good start to the season. if we were to lose the first game, that would be a bad sign. its not totally over, but it would be a bad sign. ------------------ "Man, it's cool. I'm going to be president. That's Wicked." -George W. Bush, SNL

94-87 Rockets. KG is impressed with the way the Rockets are playing and immediatley demands a trade to the almighty Rockets!!!!!! ------------------ (no)Fun Police: -To point out teams or individuals that have managed to reach the pinnacle of SUCKINESS!!!!!! I probably will have to tape the game, usually when I dont watch it live the rockets win the game. So I say they win. ------------------ "You look a team that's been to the mountaintop like the Houston Rockets, I'm going to put pressure on myself to be the best possible player that I can be. My prediction: TWolves win the first half by 5-7 points. Rocks close it down by mid 4th (Mobley gets hot). Game comes down to final possession for each team. Garnett makes 2 on a pullup jumper. Francis fouled on drive to the basket. Sinks both. TWolves desperation shot comes up short ('Los is tall enough to D KG). Rockets win by one - 89-88. I think the results will depend on if Mo Taylor plays and if so, how effective he plays with his broken finger. Is Hakeem cleared to play tonite? That will also make a difference defensively. We have not had good success with the Wolves the past year. Garnett usually goes off for a near triple-double against us too. The Optimist in me says: 93-89 Rockets The Realist in me says: 101-89 T'Wolves ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
I can´t accept losing to a team that has Szcerbiak, Billups and Garret (or is that Nesterovic) as it starters in the opener, at home. We can take this guys. Garnett will do his damage,so shutting down Brandon is the key to winning the game. It´s up to Francis. Rockets 99 Wolves 93 ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
Minnesota was one of the best teams last year at disrupting Francis. Look for Garnett (imo the best defender in the league) to be giving help on Francis often...this is what happened last year. We will miss KT this game. Can Mo and Hakeem keep Garnett honest and away from Francis...that is the question. A big game from Mobley would help a lot. Last year Wally tried to guard him. Let's see that again.
Not really a prediction, but this is the preview from ESPN which is a little tricky to get to from their web site. (Click on Schedule, then November, then October, then Preview for Minnesota/Houston) <HR WIDTH=75%> HOUSTON (Ticker) -- After going through a tumultuous offseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves now focus on starting the regular season on a positve note tonight as they host the Houston Rockets. Minnesota was 50-32 last season and was poised to become a force in the Western Conference, but forward Malik Sealy was killed in an automobile accident on May 20 and then last week NBA commissioner David Stern ruled that the team had an illegal agreement when it signed forward Joe Smith to a big contract. As punishment, Stern voided the contract, fined the Timberwolves $3.5 million and took away five future first-round picks. Smith was granted free agency and although Minnesota still has hopes of signing him, it will have a huge hole up front if he goes somewhere else. If Smith leaves, Kevin Garnett will take on another responsibility in helping the Timberwolves finally get past the first round of the playoffs. With his quickness and ballhandling skills, Garnett is already one of the more dangerous scorers and defenders in the NBA, but he may have to overcome constant double-teams to improve on last season's 22.8 scoring average. The Timberwolves signed free-agent Chauncey Billups during the offseason, and he will begin his first stint as the staring shooting guard beside veteran Terrell Brandon. Brandon is one of the more patient, unselfish point guards in the league and can continue to be a good pipeline with Garnett and second-year forward Wally Szczerbiak. Minnesota, which is 4-7 in season openers, won all four games against Houston last season by an average of 17.8 points. Garnett averaged 23 points, 13.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in those contests. Houston went through a youth movement last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 1992. Co-Rookie of the Year Steve Francis is the nucleus of this rebuilding phase, averaging 18 points and 6.6 assists while steadily improving his all-around game. Francis and fellow backcourt mates Shandon Anderson and Cuttino Mobley are likely the three players that will restore the once-proud franchise to its previous place in the Western Conference. The trio combined to average 46.1 points, 13.6 rebounds and 12.1 assists last season. Although Francis and Mobley are ahead of most young players in their development, Kelvin Cato, Kenny Thomas and rookie Jason Collier still have a ways to go before they can be counted on for nightly contributions. Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon was hobbled by a series of injuries last season and had by far his lowest career averages in scoring (10.3) and rebounds (6.2). He will even be bothered by an ailing foot entering this season. Houston has dropped its last two season openers to drop to 17-16. ------------------ "Not just a layup, but a mundane layup." -- Calvin Murphy, not realizing that a mundane layup IS just a layup. I agree with Cat that the outcome of the first game won't be the deciding factor as to whether we make the playoffs. But, this is a big game! We're realistically fighting with Sacramento, Minnesota, and Dallas for the last 2 playoff spots in the west. To leapfrog those teams, we've got to beat them at home. If it comes down to Minn/Hou for the 8th playoff spot, the head-to-head matchup games really count twice. My prediction: 97-96 Rockets. ------------------
Rockets 95 Wolves 92 Francis 22pts Mobley 20pts Taylor 15pts 9boards Anderson 12 6boards Williams 10pts Olajuwon 8pts Look for Francis to have a couple of Highlight reel dunks
rockets should win ,and today we should also see steve play some damn descent de-fense. the one two punch of garnet and Brandon and the little wolves shouldn`t stop are rockets, but rockets play some de- baby and will win... 114-88 just do it if we don`t win by let`s say 18 points thrash me B.B.Sers lol. ------------------ TEXANS BABY...
