Then there would be little use for centers even more.

Keep the floor the way it is. If it's too "small" learn to adjust.

We might as well raise the rims another ft high while we're at it.

Reminds me of the Shaq/All Sport commercial from a few years ago . . .

"Grandaddy Shaq, what was the NBA like?"
"It was easy after All-Sport . . . Until they put in the moving basket"

Now, you reminded me of that commercial. I really liked that. I think it's the best commercial that Shaq has had.

I don't know why Jackson wants that change. IMHO, an enlarged court will add difficulties to a half-court offense.

kidrock8, in an enlarged court, mobile centers like Shaq and Yao may be able to become moving axis of a passing/motion offense. It doesn't sound favorable to the Rockets offensive scheme. But the game may be more exciting with a lot more fast breaks.

They'll start drafting football players, you know, wide receivers and quarterbacks. When ever a shot is put up, the receivers will be released. The defensive rebound will quickly get to the hands of the QB and he will throw it down court where one of his receivers catches it and slam it home.

    :D :D

They should widen it, instead of making it longer.

Widen the court, lengthen it a tad, and get rid of the 3 point line.

The three point line kills the incentive for mid-range jumpers, which many observers agree that it's becoming a lost art. Today's players either love to jack up treys (aka Griffin) or drive madly toward the basket (aka Francis, Mobley)--ugly basketball.

I don't think we should do away the 3-point line. Just move it waaaay out to about 30 ft. That way, you can still use it for desperation time to make it more exciting. Kinda like the 2-point conversion in football.

Why am I keep mixing football with basketball here? :)

the 3 point shot has been the death of good basketball...

you see it at the playgrounds, as well, where kids get a rebound, go down court and jack 3s instead of looking for high % shots. big men are told to "go get a board" and "kick it out for the 3".

it's disgusting, imo, and the reason i stopped playing bball.

The 3-point line is also the necessary evil companion of the shot clock. It was designed to make the sagging defense pay quickly.

Without the trey, defenses just dare you to shoot the low percentage long shots. That is okay if you have enough time to work the ball inside. With the shot clock ticking, however, the offense is forced to shoot quickly. So without the 3-point line and with a short shot clock, you will see even MORE forced outside shooting.
