    Timing,

If there is smoke my brother, there is fire.

Do you honestly believe that they are not doing business with Iraq?

I hardly think that they are thinking of the good of the planet do you?

On the other hand, you could similarly argue (not that I would) that all these countries supporting action are doing so because they don't have financial interests in Iraq and want some. Taking it over and redistributing all the contracts to firms from these countries would be profitable.

So you could argue that Spain, Britain and the US are for invading for exactly the same reasons as France, Germany, and Russia are against it.

    Major,

And to an extent you would be right. Absolutely I think that Iraq having Oil is a major factor.

They can pay for their own rebuilding.

I would never argue that economics is not part of the problem, I am just shocked that we have not struck a deal with France, Russia, Germany, China etc....for a stake in the future of Iraq.

This is what confuses me. If it really is economics, why doesn't Bush just promise those countries some nice lucrative contracts to win over their support?

I think George W is incapable of good diplomacy. He sees things as black and white.

"You are with us or against us"

I think he is turning on the lights to see who scatters.

IMHO, I think he believes "to the victors go the spoils".

We have been policing the world for the last 50 years all the while not getting anything for it but hatred and jealousy. I think he is just trying to find out who our real friends are.

Also, I think that the majority of the people in the world oppose the war, heck, I don't know anyone who likes war. However the rest of the world has not had to shoulder the economic nor military burden that the US has had to take in keeping first Russia at bay, and now smaller other countries.

France and Germany probably think that by siding with Iraq, they take themselves out of the bullseye in the terrorists mind, and they are probably right.

Nothing we do or say is going to take us out of their sights, so it is time to let the bombs fly.

All the people who proof read it should also have been fired (except for the president, assuming he proofs his own speches :)).

I think Bush Jr. thinks this is some sort of religious calling. That would explain how there is no rational explanation or evidence convincing the rest of the world or large segments of the American public. There's a good article in Time magazine offering this up as possible explanation, I agree with it, cause otherwise, Bush is just stupid.

It's the right thing to do - in every way. Bush sees that. Simplistic causes he can recognize, and this one sure is simple...
