TAKING CARE OF HOME WILL SHOW WHERE THE HEART IS After a miserable outing in Detroit, the Rockets bounced back with two key wins against Toronto and New Jersey. The win against Toronto broke a four-game losing streak for Houston; while the Nets victory helped the Rockets gain much-needed confidence going into a key homestand. Still battling the Phoenix Suns for the eighth seed out west, Houston now must take advantage of playing in the friendly confines of Compaq Center for the next few games. With last Saturday’s blowout win over the Nets, the Rockets got their four-game homestand off to a great start. The Rockets will now have to face the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls this week, plus a pivotal matchup with the Suns this Sunday. The key for the Rockets will be to focus on the task at hand. The Rockets have managed to lose several close games this season, especially to lottery teams such as the Clippers and Bulls. Yao Ming and Amare Stoudemire will be battling for more than this rebound when the Rockets host the Suns on Sunday. Bill Baptist/NBAE/Getty Images Head Coach Rudy Tomjanovich questioned his team’s mental toughness at Monday’s intense practice, and definitely got the message across that the Rockets must step up to the challenge that is before them. “We have to seize this opportunity," he said. "It’s right there for us.” Rockets reserve forward Maurice Taylor has been putting on a show off the bench in the past few games. Taylor has scored in double figures in four of the Rockets' last five games. Big Mo has provided instant offense while tormenting opponents with an array of jump hooks, mid-range jumpers, and dazzling post moves. Taylor’s play may have even inspired starting forward Eddie Griffin, who has responded with two terrific outings against Toronto and New Jersey. Houston is also starting to go to center Yao Ming more often. Earlier in the season the Rockets seemed to forget through certain stretches of games that they have a luxury at center, a 7-6 phenom. With Yao’s stellar play over the past few weeks, I haven’t heard any whispers lately of him hitting the rookie wall anymore. Yao’s fourth quarter in Toronto was a joy to watch, as the Rookie of the Year candidate was only a few shades from being labeled Olajuwon-esque. It remains to be seen who will step up this week for the Rockets. Will it be All-Star Steve Francis, who was quiet this past week due to flu-like symptoms? Will it be the determined Cuttino Mobley, or Yao and his frontcourt mates? With everyone outside of Rocketsville counting Houston out, do not be surprised to see a few members of the Rockets squad play with a sense of urgency. If Houston can start its playoff push by sweeping the remaining three games of the current four-game homestand, that would provide a major boost in the standings and in the team's confidence level. The Phoenix game on Sunday should tell exactly how much the Rockets want to be a part of the playoffs. On this day the Rockets will not have to check the standings, or watch late night highlights to see how Phoenix fared. They will have a chance for one game to control their own fate on their home floor. There is an old saying that states, “Home is where the heart is.” We’ll just have to wait and see. “We can’t worry about Phoenix. If they fold, they fold, said Mobley. We dug our hole, and now we got to get out of it. That’s what were doing, trying to get out of it right now.”
The Rockets have like a 3 game lead on the Warriors (currently own the tie breaker vs Golden State), so we have a healthy lead against them, looks like they're going to rout Phoenix! The Rockets win tomorrow vs the Clips they're in the 8th spot, so take care of business Rocks! And the next game the Rockets play is at home against the Bulls, while the Suns host Sacramento, so a chance for the Rockets to go up 2 games on the Suns (one game in the standings, but Rocks own the tie breaker), headed into the showdown with the Suns. The Rockets beat the Bulls, and the Suns lose to Sacramento, and the Rockets hold serve against the Suns, that's a 3 game lead in the playoffs over the Suns and no worse then a 3 game lead over the Warriors! Come on Rocks, beat clean up on this home stand, the ball is in your court!

Oh yeah, Amare's definitely ROY. Oh wait, Yao was 9-9 with 11 boards against Kobe's Lakers, which is a better team. So Yao should be ROY? Oh I'm so confused.
I'm pretty sure Yao and the Rockets don't care about the ROY award, I'll take the playoffs any day of the week, give the ROY trophy to Stoudemire. I like what I'm hearing from Rudy, this is the time for the Rockets to take control of their playoff lives. They win the next 3 games at home and they are in control of the playoffs, and are in position to weather the road trip coming up and still come out of it with a playoff berth. The Rocks are also gaining ground on the Lakers and Jazz, which strengthens their playoff spot.
