Any formula that says PJ Brown and Brad Miller are more valuable than Shaq, and Doug Christie is more valuable than Allen Iverson can't be flawless.
How is Jason Terry ranked that high? Sure he's a decent scorer, but he's mostly a passer on this Hawks team. On a selfish side note, I finally made it to 400. Woo hoo!
Yes this is strictly fantasy and numbers, but there have to be many, many holes. What does Karl Malone do so wrong for example that his backup teammate kirilenko is higher. Perhaps easier is in what areas is kirilenko than the great Karl Malone? Stojakovic, Shaq, Sheed, Jordan, and Antoine Walker all under P.J. Brown and David Wesley? Cmon...
Shaq's low rating is likely due to his missed games. I am assuming that these ratings are derived from total production for the season rather than on a per game basis. Just a guess i may be wrong.
ESPN weighs the VGM against the cost of getting the player. Shaq is expensive while Yao relatively cheaper. Same logic for others.
In each of the scoring categories, a number is calculated that represents the average stat total in that category. If a player has that average exactly, his rating for that category is 0.00. The numbers then represent how much a player is above or below that average. If the rating is positive, then that player is an above average fantasy player in that category. If it is negative, the player is below average in that category. All ratings are then added together to get a grand total player rating, and they are ranked accordingly.
I believe you're on the money. I play Yahoo fantasy, but in that league Shaq isn't too high in current season rankings because he missed tons of games but his overall ranking (last year's season) is in the top 10 I believe.
But he shoots a lot more of them. If you have Shaq on your fantasy team, it pretty much means you lose that category every week. Ben Wallace doesn't shoot many free throws and barely hurts you there. In a non-roto league Shaq is great. I played in one league where he averaged like 65-70 fantasy points and the next best center was like 45.
