On comparing CBA (China Basketball Association) and NBA, Yao said, "CBA is like a small cup, while NBA is like a big cup. I am like a kettle of tea. If I am poured into the CBA cup, I will have extra left. If I am poured into the NBA cup, I will have nothing left."

On dunking the ball, Yao said, "In CBA, when I face much shorter defenders, I feel too embarrassed to dunk the ball. In NBA, I need to dunk no matter what, even facing 5-5 Boykins."

On his more physical play in the two weeks, Yao said, "In NBA, the faster and simpler the offense, the better. If you don't have a strong body, you moves will be altered significantly by the body contact. You will have a huge disadvantage. In the beginning, I tend to use my brain more. I am beginning to realize that it is not enough. In one-on-one play, you need to use your body more than your brain, and go for the simplest approach.

That's something I'm afraid to see. I hope he can still maintain his finess.

That's why Bill Walton said that Yao has the potential to CHANGE the game. Imagine a Shaq-like Yao, plus range and finess!

I still keep drooling over Yao's dunk over Wallace. It's one of his best moves, against defensive player of the year. Will Yao bring it to Yao-Shaq II?

He mentioned that his basic technique didn't change much.

I hope our coachs can work on his fundamentals especially rebounding and offensive moves, not just concentrate on strength.

You probably do not want to pass over this article, although it more properly belongs to the Yao's Humor thread, but I just couldn't find that thread now.

Yao's levity, skill a breath of fresh air to league's image

    Oh, that wacky Yao Ming.

Someone asked him Saturday if he knew anything about New Jersey - the state, not the team.

"I've heard it's very beautiful," he said.

Boy, is he going to be surprised when he makes the trip from Newark Airport to East Rutherford to play the Nets on March 31.

Later, he was asked what he thought about Kenyon Martin looking forward to dunking on him.

"He's going to be very disappointed," Yao said through his translator, Colin Pine, "because if he does dunk on me, he will not be the first."

Then there was the person who badgered him about his height: If you were a foot shorter, what would you be doing?

"You guys [reporters] wouldn't have been surrounding me," was Ming's reply.

What's the worst thing about being tall?

"Why do we always have to talk about what the worst thing is? Of course there are bad things, but there are also a lot of nice things."

So what's one of the nicest thing?

"The air I breathe is a lot fresher."

    ...

WAH, I found yao is much more talkative and expressive now than when he lived in Shanghai. He could be trained up by the pressure of the mass media.

The reporters keep asking him questions. He has to answer.
