You have to visit Venice Beach, one of the most 'interesting' places in America. I live next to Old Town Pasadena, so I dont find it amazingly interesting, but it would be interesting to see once. Hollywood is OK, definitely go to Staples, its awesome. Also, be sure to visit Krispee Kreme donuts (dont kno if they have em in Houston) those things are the BEST donuts in the WORLD. No joke. They sell em at Staples, Dodger Stadium and in Burbank which is near Universal and Disney. Another resteraunt you might want to visit if your a burger fan is In-N-Out, best fast food resteraunt ever. Trust me, its better than Whattaburger If you want to see HOT chicks, Venice and Huntington Beach are the place. Venice for hot chicks on rollerblades and huntington for hot chicks on beach towels I say visit both. Have fun in LA
Check out Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Check out Geddy Museum (over-rated in my opinion) Death Museum on Hollywood Blvd is really cool, they have a bunk bed from Heaven Gate mass suicide. Also, check out a show at the Knitty Factory, hole in the wall next to Chinese Theatre. If you stick around Hollywood at night, there are plenty of hole in the wall places with plenty of night life.
Just moved to Pasadena from Orange County (Balboa Island) a few weeks ago. We must live very near each other. As an aside. I grew up in Pasadena, TX. Does anyone remember when Moby used to say Pasa-get-down-dena?
Computer room setup & testing, network testing, move coordination...didn't help "build" it but spent a year and a half helping to make it go live.
What I do when in LA... hmmm, leave as soon as possible. Some people like LA, but I personally think it is the most over rated place in California.
If you are still into amusement parks, Magic Mountain is badass, and the last time I was in L.A. was 91. Rodeo drive was cool, its like the River Oaks Shopping center, are a Galleria outside, I know you don't have a bunch of money, but just window shopping there is nice and the surrounding scenery is beautiful in every aspect. I went to Vince beach I thought it was a bit overrated, but I was still fairly young. Mr. Oily wants you to see The Getty. That's kind of funny. If that is that house at the top of Beverly Hills, that was pretty cool, I can't remember which oil baron owned it, but I assuming it was Getty.

It was in better shape in 91. ...If that is that house at the top of Beverly Hills, that was pretty cool, ... Not anymore. The collection was moved to an awesome new (about 4 years old now?) museum on a hill over Sunset and the 405. They kept Getty's house open for a while, but I'm not certain if they have closed it yet (they had plans to).
This is just my personal taste, but I would check out some improv comedy. Go to Improv Olympic West(IO West). It's cheap and very funny(most of the time.) The only thing is that like a lot of live theatre in LA it won't be very crowded, so it's not a hip scene or anything like that, but depending on which night you go there, you may see some celebrities(semi) perform. If you get a chance at Venice Beach try swinging on those rings they have. I've never done it, but I would love to. I'll be moving to LA in less than a month, and hopefully I'll have better advice after I've been there a while.
I just got back from a 4 day, 3 night trip to LA...and it was awesome. I'm looking at going into film/TV, so I went with 15 other broadcasting students as sort of a "senior trip". I can see why some wouldn't like it, but I thought it was a lot better than Houston. But then again, we got hooked up with an insider tour at the WB studios, got to watch the production and meet everyone from the West Wing . Then later one of the producers got us tickets to the taping of Friends. Among the celebrities that we saw(met some) were Martin Sheen, Tara Reid, Amanda Bynes, Everclear (the band), Mario Lopez (AC Slater for fellow Saved by the Bell fans), and of course the cast of friends. Universal was good, but they need more rides. Shows were cool, but need more crazy rides. Also drove down Rodeo Drive, more of a girl thing if you ask me. I'd rather shop somewhere I can afford. Medieval Times is a cool place to go if you have a few loud friends to go with. Didn't get a chance to go down to Venice Beach. The only setback is the one thing that you need to have fun, is money, and plenty of it.
