It's at the Engine Room. Anyone going? Just in case some of you are wondering, Frank Black is a guy named Charlie Thompson who went by Black Francis when he was the leader of a little band called The Pixies.
also here http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53179 no one seems to be that interested.
I'll be there. Frank Black is one of the few artist I'll go out of my way to see. I've seen him twice with the pixies and 7 times as a solo artist. One of the most influential artists of the our era in my opinion. I posted this yesterday and didn't get one response. Those who have never seen him... you don't know what you are missing.
That's because they're brainwashed by Clear Channel Communications into thinking that Dave Matthews is the best thing to happen to music since Hootie and the Blowfish. It's a damn shame people aren't allowed to hear what's going on outside of Clear Channel's radio playlists.
Actually, it' a damn shame people rely on Clear Channel to determine their musical tastes. Nobody's forcing anyone to listen to the gabage they play. Take a chance and listen to KTRU instead. Like Clear Channel, you're going to hear a fair amount of crap. However, the good thing about KTRU is that you won't ever hear the crap again. And 3-4 times a day, you'll hear something new and really cool.
You're sort of right. Pop music will always be POPular. Nothing wrong with that, though. The problem is that people are not given the choice to decide what can be popular. With most of the radio stations run by huge corporate entities, what will be popular has already been decided and paid for. KTRU is the extreme opposite. Like you said, there is also a lot crap that gets played on that station. I think satellite radio is a good start. You actually have choice on what you want to hear. Check out the diversity: http://www.xmradio.com/programming/full_channel_listing.jsp?sort=number I could spend days listening to stations such as: Fred - Classic Alternative Cinemagic - Escape into the Movies Special X - Anything Can Happen...really, ANYTHING! Deep Tracks - Deep Album Cuts XMU - New Music . . . Now Squizz - Hard Alternative XM Music Lab - Progressive Rock & Fusion Unsigned - Unsigned Bands Only! The Groove - Old School R&B The Rhyme - Hip Hop from Day One Luna - Latin Jazz Caliente - Music from the Caribbean The Joint - The Most Mighty, Wicked, Dangerous Reggae Ever XM Comedy - Everything Funny If this and Sirius start catching on, then it may very well change the face of radio.
Radio??? What is radio??? Since the invention of the ipod I don't think I've listened to the radio more than 10 minuets total.
Frank Black rocks! Unfortunately I will not be going to see him live, I will however, put every FB MP3 into my playlist and jam all night long!
Same here, except that I make CDs for the car. Radio is a last resort. The problem with that is that I can only burn what I already own. Getting turned on to good new music has become a lot more difficult than it used to be for me. I had it good back in the late 80s and early 90s. Working at Sound Warehouse exposed me to a lot of music that I would never have heard otherwise. The employees got to pick out what music got played so the selection of music was as diverse as the employees. I was also in a band at the time. So I was always around other musicians and got to hear their influences.
I'll sneak my digital camera in and share some photos of the show. The last time he was in town he played at the engine room and it was a great show.
I'll be taking pix too. I noticed that a few people were doing so at the last show at the Engine Room. You're right. It was a great show. It had been a couple of years since I last him and was pleasantly surprised that he did a few Pixies songs. Definetly a treat. BTW, did you go see The Breeders a few months back. Great show also. I got to go back and meet the girls. Both Kin and Kellie were nice and approachable.
I have a friend that went and said he played a bunch of Pixies stuff then pretty much stuff off the last two cd's. Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop. Space, got them pics?
