Some interesting quotes from Morey about our simple offense. He concedes it may hurt us in the playoffs. We basically only run high pick and rolls. Don't really run any other plays. The stated reason for this is the Harden trade. Not sure if its the lack of training camp or just wanting to utilize Harden more.

Pick and rolls becoming less effective as defenses pack the paint. Offenses around the nba becoming more complex. The Heat completely revamped their offense from the 2011 Finals series against Dallas. Most pick and rolls now come after some misdirection to get the defenders out of position.

    I think the reasons are:

    * Harden might be the most effective high pick-and-roll player in the league.
    * No training camp to implement elaborate offenses for the new-look team
    * Team is young, so keeping things simple is a good way to go.

I think we are building wrinkles in - if my eyes didn't fool me, I thought I saw an elevator screen for Harden yesterday

Agree...it's just too bad they don't mix it up every now and then. Watching the Phoenix game last night and virtually every other game, we just go through so many scoring droughts when our shots arent falling and stubbornly stick to the high pick and roll.

We act like we got Harden 3 minutes ago. Come on coaching, staff, shamelishly steal from some the greatest coaches in the NBA. Adelman has some backdoor cutting offense, we could run 1 set from the triangle. There are plenty of options out there. I don't see McFail coming back based on comments from Morey

i noticed it a long time ago. the key to his effectiveness is due to his euro style steps. i remember one thread talking about his low post moves. i barely saw he did any post move so far. why? is he good at it? one play in the last night game, he tried it against goki below the elbow area but he gave up after a few bady contacts. there was no double team. it looks to me he likes to face defender and away from the rim so he has the space to use his euro style steps. other star players, kobe, lebron, melo, and wade, do all types of moves, depending on where they get the ball. i hope he can develope other offense weapons.

honestly call me crazy...but I read an article or radio interview where they said they wanted to try and use Harden in the post. Then that article about harden playing in the post with the bigs after practice for extra work. They said harden was the best post player after Greg Smith.

Which is crazy because he was posting up on our PFs not the SG/SFs.

I think they are saving the harden post plays for the playoffs....I really do. Ive been thinking that for a while. Cause if he is good at it why are they not doing it. But at the same time holding that back until the post season could be what gives us a chance at the no 1 seed.

Nice words about Omer's outlet passes, which are indeed great.

I feel like I always learn something when I read something from Zach Lowe. Thanks for sharing, OP.

Was it the article that stated Harden was practicing against two of our PFs/Cs ?
I dont think they saved it for playoffs, I think probably they (the coaches) thought he has potential on this area , but i think it'll be something for him to practice on in the off season ( correct me if i'm wrong tho ).

    no not this article...

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2013/03/james-harden-gets-special-session-with-big-men/

McHale said Harden also enjoys sessions with sparring partners.

“James likes to play bully ball,” McHale said. “He likes to beat them up. I always tell him, ‘It’s a damn shame when our two-guard outmuscles our fours and fives. That’s why he goes down there: to beat them up. James has got great strength and great endurance. He keeps hitting those guys and tries to wear them out. It’s a foul every play, but he has fun doing it.”

Then I heard a radio interview on 790 I think where they asked about this and mchale or bullard or morey (sorry cant remember which one) said he is good the post probably second best on the team after greg smith.

But I dont know how accurate that is...the point really is just that he is working and has post skills.

If you read what Morey said carefully it sounded like he was saying they did not have time to make the real changes they wanted based on acquiring Harden so late.

I will note that the Rockets have added new wrinkles to their offense. It is hard to do with no training camp last year, and virtually an entirely new team this season.

I expect to see more passing and post play from Parsons and Harden next season.

I hope this article explains why the Rockets want an elite stretch 4.

The problem is that running sets may not actually yield better shots. We don't have a reliable post scorer. So the sets are still going to set up to create jumpers.

"You have already seen teams dump players with surface talent in part because people in charge of those teams have deep concerns about that player's basketball intelligence. That's not the last you'll see of moves like that."
