You can get a great deal on rentals via Priceline's name your own price option. I've gotten rentals for as little as 50-60 bucks for a weekend (F-M).
Simple. I call to schedule a service appointment. They ask if I'm going to waiting, need a shuttle, or would like a loaner. I always say loaner. In fact, I just got my confirmation for the 19th. Here's the repair service they listed: Repair Services: Brake System Diagnosis Drivability Diagnosis
Old thread bump: I'm going on a long road trip starting the 24th, from Houston to Washington DC with several stops between. I'm having trouble finding a good deal on rentals, even with priceline's name your own price. Is it best to book it last minute? My car is pushing 100K miles and doesn't get great gas mileage, so I just want something that gets good gas mileage for the week. Best I have found is about $24 a day, but I keep getting told that I should be able to get one way cheaper. This is a long trip so I'm trying to be as budget conscious as possible.
I almost always use National since I get to pick from the Executive aisle. I will book my car weeks in advance and then check back every so often. I will almost always get a lower price as I get closer to the day I need it so I just cancel and re-reserve. In addition, they may then start having specials for a free day or additional discounts as the date approaches.
Do all companies do unlimited miles for the most part? I know enterprise will charge if you go past louisana, but it looks like priceline doesn't use them in the name your price option, so would it be safe to assume I could drive as far as I want?
