http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-heat06mar06,0,5365793.story?coll=sfla-sports-front Informal poll of voters YM at 58.1 percent Amare Stoudemire at 25.8 This is great news, but I expected it to be much closer. I wonder what Phoenix fans will say about this. Raven
Does anybody knows what the criteria are for selecting ROY? I wonder if they factor in a lot of these X factors like opponents focus on Yao intensely and even double and tripple teaming him. Whereas, the few games I saw with Phoenix, Amare doesn't get as much respect on either end and they don't really focus on boxing him out like they do to Yao. All that said, personally, I would like Yao to win it, but I don't mind if Amare wins it either. What's more important is Yao & the Rockets development. You and your team will always be remembered for how you perform through the test of time and not one season. Look at how many ROY winners turned out to be just another player. Magic Johnson took his team to the NBA final and I believe he won the NBA final MVP but did not win the ROY honor.
I'm a Suns fan, and wouldnt have that big of an issue if Yao is to win it. Yao has received more publicity than just about any rookie in recent memory. Consequently, other teams are well aware of him and going after him. He is getting a ton of attention from opposing teams, and the refs certainly arent doing him any favors. Amare on the other hand, sort of came into the league without much fanfare (‘cept in Phoenix) and was able to get away with a lot early on. Defenses were leaving him in 1 on 1 situations and even the refs seemed to be treating him as a veteren. That changed some time ago. Now teams are throwing 2 and 3 guys at him. Like most rookies, Amare is just having to adjust - and doing a pretty good job of it. All in all, I am damn proud of Amare. Personally, I'd like to see Amare get the ROY. I watch the guy every night, and what he is able to do in the NBA (after only 2 years of HS ball) is simply amazing. Like I said though, I wouldnt be too disappointed if Yao was to take the honors. Their numbers are so similar that I think it will boil down to whatever team plays the best down the stretch.
No matter who the ROY is, Emanuel Ginobili is the most valuable one. He is light years ahead of anyone you guys mentioned here.
Light years ahead of Yao Ming, Amare, Caron, and Drew? You mean... just like Jay Will is supposed to be light years of everyone?
Newest result from that site Who do you think should win NBA Rookie of the Year? 45.7% Caron Butler, Heat (32 responses) 47.1% Yao Ming, Rockets (33 responses) 7.1% Amare Stoudemire, Suns (5 responses) 37 total responses I'd not take it seriously considering the regional nature of that site.
Emanuel Ginobili is a great player. I do not think that he is ahead of Yao though. I liked him when he played in the world cup. His team beat the U.S team too. I like their style.
It was my fault. The poll is from sun-sentinel's site, which is different from the one cited in that paper.
The Sun-Sentinel is a South Florida newspaper. Obviously there is bias in the poll for Caron. Interestingly enough, Yao still beat out Caron by a few percentage point
Hey Clutch or DoD, get rid of this troll. Raytiger, you come on somebody else's board and say something true, it's pretty dumb and you get called a troll. You come on somebody else's board and say something absolutely stupid, you're a moron.
