As much as I dislike the guy, but Rice is the only veteran on this team. It's his role to speak out

Yes, he broked unspoken rule with the EG nameing calling. Now he spreads rumor about the trade. If you have followed sports as you claimed you have, you'd know athlete won't/shouldn't talk about teamates' performance in any negtive tune, even you are the team leader, let alone a rookie.

Normally, I might care about Yao saying some of these things. BUT, as I now believe he is the only member of the Rockets organization who is untouchable, at least he gives me some hope that there will be changes.

    IF this is legit.

I'd like to second that remark. I'd also like to say that I found nothing Yao said to be anything bad. He didn't 'dog' a soul, just talked about the coordination problems in the team.

If this interview is legitimate, maybe the things Yao says are more controversial in the Chinese culture than in America. Yao has to be very careful about everything he says and does, since the eyes of two nations with different expectations are on him all the time. It's generally considered bad form to discuss your team-mates' performance by name in interviews here in America, but I don't think there's anything unreasonable that Yao says or anything that would make his team-mates angry with him.

Again, thank you to all the people who took the time to translate the interview.

The interview happened, obviously. They wouldn't publish it on a website with so much reputation at stake.

I got a Chinese friend of mine to read it over, and then read the translation.

I'm very sorry lancet, but his response was that your translation was.....let's say pessimistic. He also said that he'd write the translation EXACTLY as you did if he wanted to stir some trouble.

Also, about the trade thing, we all know that Ming surfs the net fairly regularly. I remember him specifically saying this. It's possible he heard the rumor from right here.

From now on, I propose no translations, just brief summaries if you MUST.

According to what Yao said in the interview, Rudy would shake up the team if the Rockets lost to the Pistons. Well, we lost. But the Rockets have the same lineup tonight against the Raptors.

So what Yao said in the interview was not true. Or Rudy did not follow through with his words. Or the interview was faked.

I agree with heech and feishen.
The interview was true but it was quite possible that Yang Yi had put some of his understanding of Yao's words when he finished the output.

Question: How do you think you did against Wallace?

Yao: I kicked his a$$, man!! I hit him so hard, I knocked his CHILDREN'S teeth out!!

Question: Are your teammates giving you much help?

Yao: Nah, they suck, dude. Stevie and Cuttino are busy playing with their mouthpieces, they forget what they're being paid for. They should be warrior-men, like me! I'll kick all their a$$es!

Question: Why does Coach Tomjanovich keep you on the bench sometimes at critical moments?

Yao: Because he's a friggin' moron! But I'll have the last laugh. I'll crush his puny body!! I'm YAO MING!!! I CANNOT BE STOPPED BY MORTAL MEN!!!

    Something like that, right?

    Geez people.
Nothing controversial here at all IMO.
The image you present to the media and to a friend is totally different.
Perhaps Yao Ming has a brash side to him after all doesn't surprise me :). He is IN the basketball world after all where "ME" is in and TEAM has mostly gone out the window.
I would make that trade for (Brand for Mobley + EG) in a heartbeat.

That interview is definitly a faked one.
What they want is to get more eyes on their web site and I think they have gotten it now.

I don't like most of the sport reporter in china, especially those "new names" who need "write" some "explosive news" to make their names well known.

Ming might say something about Rox to his close friends, but definitely not in this style!

I think people should stop trying to translate chinese into English. It can be misunderstand because different language and culture makes it hard to translate. It's simply not possible to completely convey a message if you translate word for word from Chinese to English.

None of the translation I saw is accurate.

If people reading this translation, they should not take it too seriously. It's hard to believe the Ming would have so much time to talk to this guy almost every game. I seriously doubt this Yang Yi guy's credibility.

This is way too exagerating. You put words into Yao's mouth. It's totally off the base translation that try to be funny

Well if this is really a valid interview, this Yang Yi guy is seriously using his friendship with Yao Ming to make money and a name for himself big time. Yao should not trust this kind of "friend" so much.

The interview isn't fake, but the translation tampered with the interview to cause controversy.

    Absolutely right. Stop translating.

Some translation are really nonsense, such as the middle finger. It's just a joke. Everyone knows the meaning of your extending your middle finger in US. They were just making a little bit of fun of this sign during friend's chat.

About inside and outside game play, Yao wants to adjust himself to the current team play style at the end of this topic. You see how nice he is and how hard he plays. He just try to do his best to play team ball.

To the topic of Rice, you cann't use the word "mentally" to describe what Yao really means. I don't know the other word. But if you have an experience on any team sports, you will understand the meaning. When you have a veteran who was very good on your team, young players always listen to him intentionally. Just like in school, youngers follow olders. Nothing is wrong.

These are my understanding, not the translation.
