Other than wearing out his best player before the playoffs and not providing enough discipline or structure for his young players, he's a good coach and 39-32 is a good record considering the age and inexperience of this team. I still want to see what this team can do with a couple more seasons together. It should be fun to watch.
It isn't a matter of 'like' I just don't trust him to be able to develop or push this team in legit contention given what I have seen these past two seasons of him as a head coach. Other then relying heavily on our best players I've yet to see him develop a system that you could say is his own or works to positively define the team. His offense without Harden isn't much better then what you'd see on a local gym court, defensively this season I hearing preaching but I question if he is coaching because last year's returning players, Parsons and Patterson, were better at it then they showed with the team this season. I'm no basketball expert but this team has talent and some of the ways he uses substitutions or time outs leave much to be desired when someone like me can see he runs the risk of burning his better guys out or is giving streaky players (that don't play good defense) too much time on the court then they should.
He might be a nice person. He was a great player, but is a terrible coach. He needs to go for the better of Rockets.
Benching the starters was a big statement by Mchale. I love the message! Even Harden is not subject to getting benched. Hopefully, they will respond well tomorrow.
I thought the starters earned the bench, particularly Asik and Harden who were by far the two worst players on the floor tonight. The thing that bothered me the most was when Harden stopped trying in the 3rd quarter.
I understand you all being mad about Mchale benching the starters but the biggest problem I saw tonight was his decision to play Delfino at PF that really got the game out of hand early and when he had time to dust he didn't. This guy was a great player on the court but standing on the sidelines is something he's just not good at.
It was stupid. They don't do that in the pros because these are adults that want to be treated as such. Doing something like that in college makes sense and is effective, but completely absurd in the NBA.
It's not a popularity contest. Go Baby Rockets! ..and change your diapers after last night, you pooped in 'em.
He is a terrible coach. He inconsistency is reason to get rid of him. I would have a better record if I am coaching this Rockets. Just look at the starting line up. Asik - Top 5 in rebounds Harden - Top 5 in scoring Harden/Lin - #1 guard combo in all categories. Parson - a rising SF star DMo/TRob - good potential. Especially with DMo, while young, he show he can plays both in and out. If D'Antoni is coaching this line up instead of Lakers, the Rockets will be the top 3 seed in the west.
He's a good coach for now. Did a good job getting some chemistry with the guys, but we'll need up upgrade eventually. He's like a good stepping stone.
Who cares if anyone "likes" McHale? He is doing a good job with the Rockets this year, and they have overachieved for such a new and young team. Benching the sluggish starters was a ballsy move, but a good one. That is what the coach is there for, to push the buttons to make the players play better. Hopefully it will work.
