beverly is more effective off the ball than lin. but you cant have harden be the only guy to dominate the ball. i would like to see lin and beverly in at the same time. i remember lin and toney giving good production as a combo early in the season.

This coach clearly has beef with Lin for whatever reason. It happens to everyone in this life. For some reason, at some point in your life, you don't like a person, and you can't explain to yourself why you don't like them. It could be this case for McHale not liking Lin. I believe Sampson doesn't like Lin either...

I mean, Lin was averaging 20ppg in one stretch, then 3 games ago, he stunk it up a little bit in the first quarter, and McHale started benching him excessively. You gotta realize this kid was averaging 20ppg, he made a few mistakes in one game's first quarter and you want to play the backup more minutes than him for 3 straight games? Why fix something that ain't broke? McHale adjusted rotation unnecessarily

No offense, I don't see how "much better" defensively Bev is than Lin. He is a solid one-on-one defender, but Lin is too. Everytime an opposing guard penetrates into the paint, if Lin is defending, there's like a 50-50 chance the Rockets get a steal. Lin is that good. Beverley on the other hand is a scoring guard, Eddie House like, who can't run a team. He doesn't make bigs like Smith, Asik, T-Rob better like Lin.

The reason why Beverley gets more playing time now is because he complements Harden better, he allows Harden to be more of playmaker, and can knock down 3s on Harden's passes.

I am a Lin fan, and I am not even mad. This embarrassing fallout between a coach and player is becoming more obvious by the day, and I believe the organization under Morey will make the right decision that the person who was wrong will have to be let go. Yes, Lin is somewhat still turnover prone, although he's much better than last season, and turnovers in PG world does not mean anything really when you see the best PGs in the NBA like Rondo, Irving average higher than him. McHale makes his own bed. He will be let go I believe... if for some reason Morey decides to keep McHale and trade Lin, that's also fine. He will be on another team who appreciates him more.

Agree with the solid defense. Lin was sold on defense too though. This is not between Beverly and Lin. it's just Mchale wants harden to make the play and somehow he prefers Beverly when he does that.

Maybe but I don't think it would even change the out come of the game one bit. Roxs couldn't stop Pacers inside game and their defense was too good. McHale just prefers Beverley's defense more hence why he got more burn.

This. Anyone who doesn't see how little McHale trusts Lin, is blind. End of Story. Forget the conspiracy that McHale hates Lin personally or because of the front office etc is bull, but its plain and simple, he just doesn't think Lin is his starting PG and will bench Lin first chance he gets and after few mistakes, no chance for Lin to even redeem for his mistakes. Don't see McHale benching Chandler everytime he turns the ball over. I say trade Lin or at least have the balls to start Beverly so Lin can have some consistency in playing time and coming off the bench pressure free.

That's the point "prefers" versus actuality....Beverley moves around and is quick but if you look at the final numbers they are on par with each other. McHail was purely knee jerking from the last game and was hoping for another huge spark form Beverley. The problem was that it never came...as a last ditch effort and to save face he brought Lin back.

Actually, I really really really wanna see Bev starting over Lin, and see how much "better" Rockets are with Beverley (the scoring guard in a PG body) and how much better Beverley the player than Lin is.

Do it McHale. We know you're a great GM and great talent evaluator back then in Minnesota. Don't like Lin? Don't need to play him at all, just play Beverley - Brooks at PG and DNP-CDs Lin. Don't insult a player by letting him keep his starting position but play him bench minutes. Or better yet, just shut down Lin for rest of season. Stick to your guts and do it, don't flip flop no more.

Really effective tonight shooting 6/24 and playing 43 min without J-lin interrupting anything. When you shooting guard shoots 25 percent that is not considered the hot hand thats a black hole. Thats a sg shooting your team out of a game regardless of him ending up with 22pnts

Agree with the point on the inside game. I was like W...when Mchale put both Asik and Greg on the court. And then the pacers started to hit jumpers. We need Mchale + JVG .

If you are the coach, what will you do? Go with someone who doesn't create, hence not make mistake and turn the ball over, or with someone who can create, but sometimes makes mistake and turns the ball over while doing so?

We all know what the the Rockets coaches have chosen, but you cannot foul them for doing so when the team is fighting for playoff position.

This is just baloney. George Hill did nothing the entire game, he was 0-10 til late in the 4th quarter. There was no defensive reason Beverley was in at all. If that was the criteria, Lin would have never come out in the 3rd because he got 2 steals during that short span and played great defense.

If anything the best chance Rockets had was outscoring the Pacers offensively, not winning with grind-it out defense, and in that regard Lin is the better option.

Lin was the reason Rockets got to within 4 at one point in the 3rd, he was dishing as well as scoring but got yanked while Harden remained in all game tossing bricks.

I think the 3 careless turnover by Lin resulting in 6 easy pts is part of the reason why he decided to go with Bev. Bev plays within himself, doesn't make as much silly mistakes, more pesky on defense, and defers to Harden. You lose asts but Harden runs the show so it doesn't matter.

I don't know if it would've changed anything either and hindsight is 20/20. But relying almost 100% on Harden when he's cold against a great defensive team seems like a recipe to lose the game

McHale definitely prefers Bev's D over Lin's. But George Hill was ice cold no matter who was guarding him tonight.

well, this is quite the turn around from a week ago when many on this forum felt good about lin as the starting point guard for the rockets.

imo, it is obvious the coaching staff is not that high on lin and has not been that high on lin since the beginning. not sure why people are still surprised.

i wouldn't be surprised if after a mini losing streak, beverly is named the starting point guard.

Bev did a really great job on George Hill - good thing he brought the defensive energy because Jeremy really couldn't put a plug on his rock solid 1 for 11 shooting night.

This game is not about how he uses PG. it is about how he uses our front court.
It is about whether our coach has a plan and have the gut to make decisions and take responsibilities in the game.

Well, they chose a strategy and it didn't work. Why can't we critique?
