Tough poll question. My initial answer is not the Spurs, but the other two teams are very tough as well. The Thunder have looked like the best team at times this season, and the Nuggets look like they are designed to beat a team like the Rockets (I can't imagine a worse match-up). Overall, I don't think we can beat any of those three teams, but I guess are best chance is against the Thunder, then the Spurs and finally the Nuggets. Honestly though, I am hoping for Memphis (who I think we would beat), then Clippers (who I think we could beat if the Rockets play great) and then those other three teams (who, honestly, we'd be lucky to push any of them to a 6 game series).
I would rather face an older team like the spurs, and try to out run them. But out of all those four match up against them besides one of them, it was a close game each time. I believe we got rob on the second and third game tho. We can match against them but we can't hold Parker that's the only problem. Plus we don't really have any playoff experience beside harden, defino, asik.
do we lose against memphis on purpose for them to get 3rd seed n try to win all of our other games? just need golden state to loose starting tomorrow.
Have to go with the nuggets. Against the Spurs or the Thunder we are the underdog regardless of whether it is a home or away game. I know the Nuggets have been playing better on the road lately but for the year they aren't a very good road team so I have to pick them.
We are the underdogs against anyone and all of them, honestly. Heck we would be lucky to take 1-2 games of them. But the Nuggets have been damn scary lately. I assume you mean Nuggets because we would probably be able to take 1 or games at home. They have been pretty much unbeatable at home this season.
it would be hyped as hell to see harden face his former team the very first season he gets traded. wouldnt mind, but i want us to take a team to 6 games at least. okc and spurs would sweep us, or maybe win in 5
I'm hoping memphis or denver. Or the spurs. But not OKC, or Clippers. Because the team with the deepest bench is the biggest threat.
Just curious why most people think that teams with slower, half court games always win over fast paced teams (other than "because history says so". Why not force them to our style of play instead of slowing down to theirs? So, playoffs defense is more intense, and they put extra effort into falling back on transition? Why not push the ball hard on every single possession and fast break them until their older legs fall off?
Of those three listed Denver has the big altitude advantage and best home record but are far more likely to be sweepable on the road as before their steak they were below .500. Memphis is a dead team walking so the only other option is if Clips move up. If you can steal one game go for it and take on the Nuggets who may be peaking a bit early.
I hope GSW wins all their remaining games and get the 3rd seed, Rockets then gets the 6th seed. 2nd round here we come.
You need an option for "It doesn't matter, we have almost not chance regardless". I would like us to win a series, but I don't see any way we do as a road team.
I lost the post but I'll probably just manually generate it on basketball reference. We are by far the 2nd worst team when you look at our record and point differential amongst games played against the Top 8 West teams. We're something like -5.6 while the Lakers are -6.0 the third worst was GSW at -4.8 and Memphis at -4.5 The Spurs and OKC are around +4.5 and Denver is at +4.0. So yeah, there's a pretty big margin between the top 4 teams and us.
the spurs we'd lose to in 6, the nuggets in 5, and the thunder a sweep. We only won one game against okc through incredibly hot shooting, and still it was by only 3 points, the rest of them were blowouts in the 30 pt range, the spurs on the other hand we actually ground out, and have been competitive in every game bar the first.
Shouldn't this poll be Thunder, Nuggets, Clippers, or Grizzlies? Spurs have a nice lead for the top spot, and we're unlikely to fall to 8 at this point. If we somehow can't pass GSW, we'd meet the Thunder. Otherwise, we're at 6, and Nugs, Clips, and Grizzlies are all now tied at 22 losses. If it's Spurs or Thunder, we're toast. I think we can be competitive against the other 3. With the tear that the Nuggets are on at the moment, I wouldn't want to play them. But, they might be peaking too early and slag off a little before we reach the playoffs. Really don't want to see Chris Paul in the playoffs. Grizzlies would be tough with their size, but that's who'd I'd prefer because our strengths and style are so different, we might find an advantage in the match-up. That's a match-up that I think can swing heavily in either direction (which is what you want when you're looking for an upset). Lakers. We're 3 games up on them, so I'm feeling pretty safe. And once we pass GSW in the loss column, they'll never catch up again.
I don't like matching up with any of these three teams, but I chose the Nuggets simply because - as someone else here on CF has stated when this scenario has come up - we'd have the best player on the floor. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll likely have a different answer.
Thats a bit skewed I think. Most of our games against those in the top 8 happened while we were still figuring things out. Granted they are probably still much better but the gap is probably narrower than we would think.
