Sure looks like he was starving himself for the good of Alah, doesn't it.

These guys are not interested in Alah, they are only interested in power.

Nope. To me, he looks like Omar Sharif after eating dinner at Fogo de Chao every night for three months straight.

I hope you are all just joking about advocating torture...If we resort to that, no matter what the reason, we are no different from those we say we oppose.

Is this a statement of fact or opinion? I don't see him as irrelevant until we have a body.

Blah, blah, blah, blah. And a blah, blah, too. We must never blah, blah, in any way, blah, compromise our moral position in this blah blah war.

Blah fu*king blah. We will stick a hot poker up this guy's ass until the beans start flowing. This imformation is too important to let go - bin Laden's whereabouts, the names of every Al Qaeda on the planet, their location, their mission... Everything. This f*cking guy knows everything!!!! We will get as much of it out of him as we can.

In this particular case, you can take your defense lawyer and stick him up yer ass. We're getting that info. Period. If you don't like it - write yer goddam congressman (to steal a quote from a drill sergeant). Go ahead. I dare you... ;)

This guy's ass is still destined for a rendevouz with a hot poker. He WILL be interrogated. It is too important.

Right...sorry, I forgot...these pesky morals are only things we have when they're convenient...And I'm sure that the uman rights violations we are citing when we justify invading Iraq would be excused if we thought that Saddam thought that they were important...Clearly he was doing them for a hobby, or on an off day, with nothing else to do, and that kind of moral compramising we just can't tolerate.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. He sent folks to American soil to kill our citizens. We do WHATEVER is necessary to get out WHATEVER information we can.

Let's see. On one hand you have the mass killing of innocent people, on the other hand you have the torture of a guilty individual to get information that could prevent another mass killing of innocent people.

Yep, you're right. We're no different than terrorists.

I'm sorry MacBeth, but that was just a thoughtless statement. You can argue against torture without forging parallels between the United States and terrorists.

Not to put words in anyone's mouth, but some intentional acts are wrong regardless of the rationale. So if it's fundamentally wrong then rationale is irrelevant, and therefore, they are the same.

Personally, I don't think this guy will show up in a few years with welts on his skin. I think it will be more along the lines of psychological pressure/torture...probably harder to define as torture.

The CIA already tortures people. Most of it's psychological, but it's still torture. I read an article on it. What makes you think they wont torture this guy?

I believe in an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.....Stick him in a building and fly a remote control plane with a bomb on it into the building. Finding someone to do it is not a problem because I'll do it if no one else will.;)

Well, if a person believes that torture is fundamentally wrong, then they probably also believe that war is fundamentally wrong, no? I mean, is that too big of a leap?

That means someone who followed that line of thinking would make no distinction between just and unjust wars. And I realize that the merits of a war is in the eye of the beholder, but if the rationale is completely irrelevant then this type of person would make no distinction between Hitler trying to conquer the world and the Civil War. Now, there are probably some Nazi skinheads out there who would claim that the former was more honorable, but generally speaking, I think the majority of the world would disagree.

I understand what you wrote and I know that there are people who feel this way, but I completely disagree with that line of thinking. It's just too cut-and-dry and simplified. Sometimes logic trumps principal, and I believe this is an example of that...just my opinion.

Anyways, I'm sure the U.S. would only restort to physical torture if other avenues produced no results.

They are already torturing the guy.

They've tied him to a chair, fed him full of No-Doz, and they are making him repeatedly watch a videotape of Dick Cheney explaining why Haliburton has been doing business in Iraq during the last 10 years in violation of several international bans and embargos.
